Just got my nice new Dell 2407 on monday from overclockers.

Installed fine and works well, so very happy. :)

One small question - there was no guarantee card or similar registration doc to fill in or return.

is this what I should expect?
Obviously I want to make sure about the warranty.

Warranty goes on the tag number or order number I think with Dell's so IF it goes wrong Dell will ask for either of these I think..

You should be able to go here and type your service tag in to see what the terms of your warranty is.

Although the last time I checked I couldn't see a service tag on the Dell monitor I was using, so your mileage may vary with that tool.

I had the same issue with my 24" as I couldn't find a service tag number, so Dell said their order number would be good enough (which was on the side on my box)...

Thanks for that

I've just had a look into the 'service tag' and Dell say this is a 5-7 character alphanumeric code on a white bar coded label.

Had a close look on the back of the monitor and could only find a long 20 character string on a white bar coded label.

Any thoughts?

Didn't think monitors had a service tag.
And that would explain why I couldn't find one!

In that case, how does the warranty work? Is it the responsibility of the retailer to inform Dell of the sale of the unit and to 'activate' the warranty from date of purchase? Or does the warranty start from the data of purchase by the retailer and not the end user?

I've had a few dell TFT replaced and I've just used the serial number on the back. I can't answer the question about when the warranty starts but I can say I've never called/email Dell to "activate" it.

When I bought a Dell 2407 recently, I rang up Dell, gave them the serial number, and they were able to look up the Order Number, which is what they needed for warranty registration, which they then gave to me for my warranty ref.....:)

Has anyone here bought a Dell from OCUK & had confirmation by Dell that the warranty is 4yrs not 3? :)

I bought mine from a 3rd party retailer, and the actual monitor was manufactured last June, ie. June 2007, so Dell then said that the 4 years warranty ran from then (not from when I actually bought it), so my warranty would run up until June 2011...

Thats a bit naughty of them imo! & thanks for sharing the info :)

I know this post of a few weeks old, but just thought I'd post my experience today (Monday).

Brought my Dell 2407WFP on the 9th June 2007 from Overclockers with a 4 year warranty.

Made a note of the work order etc. Have never registered my monitor with Dell.

Today I phoned up Dell, initially got through to India who asked for my service tag, as soon as I said it was a monitor and I don't have a tag they transfered me to their monitor department which was in Scotland.

The guy asked for the serial no (20 digit no on the back of the monitor) and from that found the work order etc himself. He asked where I brought it and when (I presume to check I was the original purchaser), he asked what the fault was, and apologised that as I phoned up after 4:30 I wouldn't get my replacement tomorrow, I would have to wait until Wednesday instead.

I double checked with him that my 4 year warranty would still be valid on the replacement monitor (different serial no etc), and he confirmed this (although I have made a note of my original serial no, just in case any dispute occurs should a fault appear in months to come).

He made it clear I would be receiving a refurbished monitor which after 10 months of use, I would expect (and as long as it works, I'm happy)

All in all a first class service, I'm very pleased.
