is anyone *still* on 56k?

DEEEE DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SCHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Hrm, I used my home cisco lab to throttle down to 64K a while ago and it was painful. No thanks :D

I do remember the days of being on Direct Connection 56K and it was awesome at the time. Amazing how you take things for granted as technology evolves.

On the subject.. "56K Warnings" are pretty dumb these days. I think anyone still on 56K takes it as a given that every page they open is going to be dog-slow anyway!

I was on 56k for a while last year while i was waiting for my cable line to be installed

Still got the PCI modem for emergencies

Don't even need the modem anymore!

PPC phones with wifi, you can get software that turns them into WAP onto the internet using the GPRS connection! :D

even my emergency backup internet access is 40-60 KB p.s which is my 3g phone via usb to computer.

i would cut my toes off if i have to withstand those speeds again

My uncle was still on it rescently til I told him to change. The 56k was actually more expensive than the broadband, and when he tried to upgrade BT tried to tell him he'd have to keep paying for his 56k.

I have a manual internet connection. I write down a bunch of 1s and 0s on a piece of paper and send them via Royal Mail. Luckily I can also see into the future allowing me to respond to this thread.
