I 'a good film' not a criteria as well?

Can be average film

Firefly, without doubt one of the best sci-fi films of the last few years

Forgot to say already had this. Just ordered the Riddick Trilogy too which annoyingly looks like it was only released in the States

trilogy?

do you mean the 2 films and the animated short that goes inbetween the films? you can get all 3 of them in this country for pennies :) admittedly not in a box set, but still

5th Element?

Not sure about the extras, but the soundtrack in 5.1 surround is fantastic...oh...and Mila isn't bad in the string bikini thing either! :)

Firefly is the series, Serenity is the film but otherwise true it is a very good film.

Dunno if it counts but Equilibrium is a fairly decent film - haven't watched the special features though.
Escape From New York is supposed to be a very good film.
300 probably counts.

Finally if you only take one piece of advice from this post, for the love of all that is good in the World do not buy Aeon Flux - I thought it couldn't be as bad as people said, I was wrong.

The Abyss special edition (interesting doc about the making of it on there too)
From the Earth to the moon (tv mini series dramatising nasa's apollo program)
Cosmos (carl sagans amazing tv show, its older now but its still superb imho)
Contact (an intelligent sci-fi movie, not enough of these)

Quoted this just to make sure you read it. I watched it all the way through, waiting for it to get good. In the end I felt like curling up into a little ball and crying like a sissy.

And OP, have you looked at Star Trek, or Babylon 5.....technically not films, but excellent value TV boxsets.

The Abyss special edition

I've got the Original 'Special Edition (R1) released about 6 years ago!... Much Better story.. Has the 'Rat Scene' and the Tsunami..

From the Earth to the moon (tv mini series dramatising nasa's apollo program)

Can't recommend this enough!.. I got it for £10 from Asda at Christmas and watched it in a Day (12 Hours solid!!) Fantastic, Funny and Moving (to the point of tears in some places!!):cool:

And Obvously Apollo 13 (I've got the R1 Special Edition with the Theatrical Version and the IMAX version on DVD)... Watch this when you get to the Apollo13 story in 'From the Earth to the moon' and you'll see a few continuity errors in the film (the TV series is more accurate!!).

If you can find it... 'Silent Running' a fantastic moving story of a lone man (Bruice Dern) and three service robots (Hewie, Dewie and Lewie) on Earths last Forest/Hydroponics starship, Instructed to destroy the forest, Dern, Takes the ship to save it and its cargo!!..

Soylent Green,
Omega Man (the proper version of I am Legend),
Planet of the Apes (all of em... even the Marky Mark version!!),
The Time Machine (OK Both Versions... the remake's not too bad!!),
Logans Run,
Red Planet (not as bad as you might think),
Mission to Mars (a bit of a Hippy Vibe and the Face on Mars has been disproved!.. But not too bad),
Battlefield Earth (Atrocious Film but a good Giggle!!)...

I could go on.. and on.. and on.....
