Whats the best 37" 1080p Plasma\LCD for watching TV/Movies and some PS3 gaming? - no Budget at the minute so all options welcome.

New panasonic PX80, or wait for the new PZ85 series which is 1080p.

Check all the other threads on the subject I always post the same thing, and find the viewing distance graph. No need for a 1080p 37 tv unless your nose is up against the screen. PQ isn't all down to pixels.

Samsung LE37M87BDX kicks every Plasma I've seen on blacks and vibrance including Panny PZ70 (IMO), easily the best LCD out at the moment.

Is that because you're looking at the poorly calibrated plasma screens and have tested every LCD screen out at the moment?

Well I've been to a number of shops and wandered around just looking at the screens, when I see one I like the look of the picture on, I look down and look at the make/model and everytime the one that is head and shoulders above the rest is the M87, maybe it's that it comes well configured from the factory and the others aren't or maybe its that it's a better panel. But apart from the picture it also looks nice, has 3x HDMI, all the usual freeview etc and is competitively priced.

Just purchased a Panny PX80 - reviews were excellent, should be delivered next week.

Looked at the Samsung LE37M87BDX, and while its rated well on its blacks, its still not into Plasma territory as the poster claims...getting some reasonable reviews mind, plus its 1080P.

I have the TX37LZD70 and it's pretty damn awesome for watching blu-ray stuff.

It's not so great when watching SD stuff via my Virgin box though.

That is my dilemma. I watch most of my stuff SD through VM+ box and HD with them is still some way off.
Bearing that in mind, what would be a better TV for watching the SD stuff.

c'mon lads

dont turn this into another LCD v Plasma debate

there are enough forum posts on the internet about LCD v plasma to go twice round the world.

Being objective about it, the 37" size is an odd one. Its not a size the big names in LCD tv make. Buy a 37" samsung LCD and it uses a cheap chinese chi mei panel. Buy a 40" Samsung and it comes with an S-LCD panel as used in sony sets.

Similarly, panasonics current range of 1080p tellys dont come in 37" sizes. And the other big plasma name, Pioneer, only does 1080p on a 50" tv at the moment.

Best LCD with money no object ? the 40" Sony X3000

best 1080p plasma ? the Panasonic TH42 PZ70. But as said, there model line up this year includes a 37" HD model. Thats the one id be going for if you want a plasma

However you may want an LCD. Do some research and draw your own conclusions ...

The V+ box does a great job of upscalling sd stuff so I wouldn't worry about this too much!

Didn't know stevie wonder browsed the forums :D

Please don't post tripe and try to get a rise out of people. I have a plasma but do understand LCDs are better suited for some peoples needs, especially gamers and PC users, but better blacks than a plasma...... NO LOL, it's like saying a Nissan has a better interior than a Rolls Royce.

But getting back on topic, the OP will be mainly watching movies and playing games, exactly what I do, along with using it as the main tv with the inbuilt freeview. For this a plasma is the only sensible option, and I did months of testing in various shops on many tvs, whilst adjusting their settings in store with the help of some settings posted on avforums, just to get a more realistic picture.

37 is a little small, and you will probably wonder why you didn't go 42, or 50 (if you can fit it in plus £££££). Also, going for a larger tv (42), will bring you into the panasonic PZ territory that does 1080p, but I still recommend you check out a well setup Pioneer Kruo 4280XD, as they can be had for about £1100-1200 and are still the best all round tv out there. The blacks are amazing, and when properly setup at home I found that mine looked even better than it did with some rough settings in the shop.
