I've had a couple of Trek 4500 bikes in the past and have been really pleased with the build quality of them. I'm thinking of going out today and picking up a 6000 or a 6500, anybody got one or want to suggest an alternative in the £450 -£750 range?

Thanks

I've been out and had a look in my local bike shop (Freewheel, Nottingham) and they were having a sale. Brilliant stuff, I thought, I'll get a cheap Trek 6000 as they were reduced to £450 for the 2007 models. Before I got a look at one the guy showed me the Trek 8000. It feels absolutely light as a feather compared to my old 4500, has hydraulic disc brakes, lockable RockShock Reba front suspension (that you can lock from the handlebars  ) and overall a very nice bike. It was at the top end of my price range at £750, down from £1100, but I decided to buy it anyway. I should get several years of good use out of it so it really isn't all that much.

Going to pick it up tomorrow, will post some pics then.

One of these?

Not too bad for £750. What size did you go for and how tall are you?

That's the one. I went for a 17.5 frame because that's what I have currently and it feels very comfortable. The guy in the shop said that's what I need for my height so I didn't bother changing. I'm 5' 11".

Well she certainly looks the part. Did you manage to get any freebies from the LBS other than the price reduction?

Well I tried to get him to go down to £700 but he really wasn't going to budge on that. Although I didn't buy anything else at the time (I was on my lunchbreak) I got him to give me 20% off anything else I buy for the next month so I think I'll get a new helmet, bag, maybe a new lock when I go to collect it tomorrow. Need to get some more insurance for it so I'll have to check which locks they require me to use.
