Forget nVidia - ATi lovers rejoice!

How are ATI doing on power consumption these days? It's one of the reasons I switched to nvidia with my GTS and GT, but I'm not impressed with nvidia drivers. Would like to go ATI again next time round.

My understanding is that current ATI cards actually draw less power than their Nvidia counterparts.

I don't think that really matters, 3 x 3870s at the cut price = £240, 9800GX2 = £440-450, we all know the GX2 isn't worth the price premium, especially the difference being £210.

so, which means you can essentially get 6 3870s for the price of a 9800GX2??? talk about value...

i guess we will just have to see what happens. interesting though. it seems a lot of the cards such as 3870 and 8800 are dirt cheap nowadays might pick one up.

Hmmm, lets say the 3870's come in at £90 (cause don't think it will be any lower than that), that would be 3 for £270), where the GX2 can already be had here on OCUK for £350.

Thats an £80 diff, more or less, not around £200...

Bang for buck they take the GX2 to the cleaners. Even a single X2 gives much better price/performance than it's power hungry, hot nVidia counterpart.

Not sure I understand that, 3780X2 + HD3780 will end up costing as much as the cheapest 9800GX2 anyway and even then at best there about even with 3x3780 using much more power, not many actually have 3 pci-e slots.

Where it is either pre-order or ex vat?

well this is good news for me, been itching to get an 3870 but was being cheap and didn't want to spend anymore than £100.

Still about £100 less, uses less power, and only takes two slots on the motherboard (three or four in total).
