Can only apologise for another 24" monitor thread but I don't know much about monitors and need some help.

I'm looking at the 3 cheapest 24" on OC and would like opinions as to which is best for gaming. I only play games and internet on my PC. Movies are piped to my TV.

I have to keep to a budget monitor as I'm also buying HD, CPU and memory also and have limited funds.

Many thanks

Oh OK. So thats better for gaming than the 3 I mentioned?

Fair enough. I don't really want to spend more than say £250ish due to the other bits and bobs I am planning to get.

Thanks

but what about the Acer P243W???

well it seems everyone is after a 24". I haven't actually heard about this Iiyama, I can't really find any reviews but the specs do look good.

The two that I was considering are the OcUK Value L2442WD VA 24" and Acer P243W. The reason is the price and the specs look very nice.

OcUK Value L2442WD VA 24”
• Viewing Angle (H/V): 180°/ 180° (VA Panel)
• Response Time: 6ms
• Contrast Ratio: 1000:1
• Brightness: 500 cd/m2
Acer P243W
• Viewing Angle (H/V): 160°/ 160° (TN Panel)
• Response Time: 2ms
• Contrast Ratio: 3000:1
• Brightness: 400cd/m2

So my question is which is best out of the two? Does the pure fact that the OCUK is a VA panel mean that it is better?

I’ve tried to look for professional reviews instead of purely customer, but have had little luck. On overclockers, lots of people have reviewed them and both are highly praised, but which features outweigh the others?

So the real question is, has anyone used both of them?
And also is this Iiyama any good? I can't even find many customer reviews about this one, let alone professional ones.

Any advice is really appreciated :). I've been trying to decide on a monitor for absolutely ages!

I've got an LG22WTQ which I believe is a TN panel. The view angle can be a pain sometimes when not directly in front of the screen but isn't an issue for gaming.

Another issue I thought of whether my 8800GTS 640mb card is up to the job at decent res.

Quite like the Iiyama. And a CRT ages ago made by them and was very happy with it.

I'd consider the OC monitor but all the business about sending them back for the right panel just isn't for me.

Another issue I thought of whether my 8800GTS 640mb card is up to the job at decent res.

I have the OcUK 24" Value monitor hooked up to a Nvidia 7900GTO, and it copes fine with the resolution 1920 x 1200, so I would think the 8800GTS 640mb would not have any problems....:)

Iiyama have been around since the dawn of time when it comes to monitors. Have owned several of them in the past (CRT's though) and they have all been top notch quality which have only been replaced to increase size, never broken.

Can all 24" panels play full 1020p HD video, or do they need special support over the HDMI cable...or whatever?! :p

hdmi is just a new cable type, you can play full HD using a analog cable if you wanted to... and that monitor supports the resolution :D

was gonna go for the acer, but seems like its not good enough

Whats the diff between these 2 benq`s?

BenQ FP241WZ 24" - £516.99

BenQ FP241W 24" - £422.99

Does the WZ not have some fancy overdrive feature or something... can't remember now. Pretty sure it's not worth it over the normal W screen. :)

(Watch me be totally wrong! lol)

So is it not that much of an issue going for the OCUK VA panel compared to the other sub - £300 mentioned in the thread which are all TN.

hey Ed, been watching the 24"ers for a long time but not had the cash. i was saving up and prepaired to pay the extra for the dell 2408, but seeing as it's primary usage is games and the fact it has comparatively high input lag, i've dismissed it.

i know that wasn't in your choices, but the point is i'm looking for a gaming 24" like you. :)

anyway i was very interested in the BenQ monitors, and i hope i'm right in what ive read and the G2400W has 1:1 pixel mapping because ive just ordered one.

if you can wait a few days i can let you know what it's like as a gaming monitor (should have it tue or wed). a few other's said they have bought it but no one has really said a lot about it.
