Sinister tracking device in my new passport..?

Although that would have course prevent the previous scenario of someone coming up and using a reader to counterfeit the details - as their biometric information wouldn't match :)

Ah, but then you could put someone's print in a piece of play-dough, and a reader still accepts it. ;)

They are strongly encrypted, but the key to decrypt them is comprised of your date of birth, expiry date and passport number. If you can find that information, you can read the data on the passport.
You can't change the data though, because it's signed.

It's unlikely that someone will clone/copy it now it's in your hands, according to this article the best place to do it is before it reaches you.

There could be a good market for foil lined wallets/pouches.

People have been known to use bags lined with foil to shoplift so it should block signals to the passport.

LoL at the OP. It's just a chip to "help" prevent forgery. If you are so paranoid you wouldn't have one, for all you know there could be a tracking system sandwiched in the last page that you don't know of!!! *Tin Foil*

It doesn't like very high or low temps, excess moisture, magnetic fields and microwaves if you really wana go ahead and void your passport:rolleyes:
