***Official*** 9800GX2 thread (reviews and benches inside)

I've found that overclocking this card and doing a 3Dmark06 run has little or no effect. I thought RivaTuner wasn't working with the drivers at first. But now i've found it's just that 3Dmark is complete **** as usual.
Other benchmarks and games show an increase.

And i'm really disappointed that this card cant run 2560x1600 with high AA on a lot of games due the only 512MB of usable VRAM. I mean people like myself with these high res monitors are going to be the kinda people buying these cards, so thats pretty retarded. Some games even do it @ 1920x1200 with 16xAA.
I hope the next gen cards have 1GB memory. 512MB is cak.

That res you want 8800GTX SLi.

But I was talking about GAMING, 1680x1050 lets see how much difference there is between the quad and dual.
Excactly, who cares that 4 cores are faster at a resolution that isn't used at all.

1680*1050/1900*1200, 4xAA, 16xAF is what is mostly used and I doubt 4 cores will be much faster at that res.

Yes.. but the 06 CPU bench is an entirely different situation from normal hardware-rendered games that are CPU or GPU limited. Just correcting some nonsense :)

Wush is right, it's also why the 06 CPU test runs like complete turd as such a pathetically low res (640x480?), as GPU isn't used at all. Good for showing how important GPU acceleration is.

I've managed to clock this card to 745MHz Core / 1803MHz Shaders / 1101MHz memory.

Not bad. Now all i need is more than 512MB VRAM lol.

see no one has argued my point that in sup com and unreal regardless of res gains are seen with quad core.

As it supports multi cores.

Just like 06

Hence why bigger gains are had with quad core cpu's

Its common knowledge that these games see more FPS with multi core cpu's.

Its plastered all over the web.

So Before you start thinking your smart actually read what people are saying.

Thats exactly why low res is used in those benchmarks.

They are testing CPU performance not gfx card perfromance.

Wait... i'm still not sure if you understand Easyrider... are you saying the 3Dmark06 CPU test is like with a game benchmark on low res?

Because it isn't, a game would still have GPU acceleration on the lowest of resolutions. But the CPU test in 3Dmark06 does not use the GPU at all, 0% GPU load, it's completely dormant. That test would run without a GPU in the system.

You might know this, but the way you word stuff it's not totally clear...

The cpu test in 06 is software rendered not hardware.

My point is that Quad core see's gains in sup com and unreal.

Willhub seems to think that upping the res will make gains smaller.

This is not the case.

Hence why they use that low res in the testing.
