Man, 81, kills himself with shot from 'suicide robot'

Can't say it's shocking. Can see the newspapers jumping all over it. But at the end of the day he programmed it to kill him. it's not as if a home made robot has AI.
It's the sensible way to commit suicide if you really want to kill yourself and not looking for attention.

I think it would have been easier to use use the pistol without the robot.

Still, I know it's wrong but I did giggle a the plans from the internet part.

I think the general opinion on line was the poor old chap was scared of brain damage and surviving, 3 shots can greatly reduce that chance but firing 3 yourself is nigh on impossible I imagine, self harm us not a normal action so I assume once you fire the first and your not dead, the survival instinct kicks in and you won't do it again.

I wonder if the builders next door thought the "suicide robot" was on some kind of rampage and ran away from it before seeing to the body? I know I wouldn't go near a machine that just shot a man dead.

Also: I wonder if it will lead to some internet censorship debate in the United Kingdom and United States.

I wouldn't say so, it's very hard taking your life. Where programming something to take your life is far easier.

I think (part of) the reason for him doing it this way was that he had a .22 pistol - a single, self administered shot to the head from that quite possibly wouldn't kill you, but would incapacitate you (or kill you after a certain time). By the "robot", he would be shot multiple times in the head, something which isn't possible in a DIY manner.

BUT - seriously why not just buy a bigger gun - a .22 would is an absurd way to kill yourself, I'd put money on him still being aware between the 1st and 2nd shots....

"So it begins.
I intend to make enquiries about joining or setting up a Bladerunner unit, but for now recommend unplugging all jigsaws and rogue power tools.

Poor sod, still, he's better off dead :) (if that's the way he saw it).

its quite difficult to get guns legally without going through lots of paper work and proving where and when you will be using the gun and buy and fit expensive wall mounted gun cabinets (well only one but they do have to be secure) he may have had the .22 pistol before gun laws were toughened?
