What temp does athlon 64 4200+ x2 939 become unstable?

Hi folks,

I'm a novice overclocker.

I have the above processor and have it clocked to 2.6 Ghz. My question is at what upper temperature will I have to reach before it becomes unstable? at the moment I'm about 68 Oc when maxing both cores and when the heating is on in my room (my computer is near radiator). I know this is very hot but it is perfectly stable. I do folding and I don't want compromise the work units with an unstable system. I don't really care about the life of my cpu as I will be upgrading very soon anyway. Also I don't want to faff about getting a better heatsink or any more fans. I realise the temp I'm pushing is probably as far as I can get it and still be stable. But what temp do you think I can reach before the cpu becomes unstable? I'm running on stock voltage at the moment so upping the voltage is out due to the extra heat.

p.s. my FSB is perfectly stable and cool and cpu (heat) throttling/cool and quiet is off.

Id say most people would feel andthing running over 60 Oc would be too hot...! Actually, lots with good cooling and water cooling wouldnt evern accept 60 Oc!

Mines, a 939 x2 3800+ 2Ghz runs very happy at 2.85Ghz... and only ever hits 55 Oc when both cores maxed out stress testing using OCCT or anything :)

yes, I know mine is hot, but what sort of temp do you think I could reach before it becomes unstable?

That basically depends chip to chip... some might run hot, some might not! Some might be more than happy siting at about 60 Oc for their entire life, some might not...

My cooler is an Artic Cooling 64 i think... its defo not the freezer pro one!
 
it does depend a lot on the cpu.
mine used to run upto 80c at 2.9ghz under water with orthos. decapping pulled it down to 50c. which is still huge for water cooled x2 temps given the low v-core at 2.9. this cpu just runs hot. if its stable. dont worry to much. just check for dust bunnies. it could always be a dodgy temp probe :)
