I am very happy with this overclock as it my first ever go at OCing! still working on getting the volts down, but after that, where do i go with the memory? do i have to bring the operating frequency near the FSBs? Can someone advise? or point me where to look!

Memory is set to 1:1, 4.4.4.12 2T or sommat like that?

Cheers

I would push to 3.6 tbh ( 400 x 9 )

That way your memory is in sync 1:1 with the FSB.

Keep an eye on the temps though.

if its stable, i.e. 8hr+ prime, you are looking good there. what VID is your chip. 57C is a good temp.

i would slacken the ram off as far as it will go, then push the CPU until it wont go any more, 70C max. get that 8hr small FFT stable. then bring the ram into check. you do this so you know what is failing, take the ram out of the equation.

Crazy, by slacken off the memory as far as it will go...can you tell me what you mean..this stuff is all new to me!

what i mean is the mem timings, it as you will start running the ram faster than its ratted at as you push the CPU faster it allows it to cope. if you start failing in prime, it will be down to CPU or motherboard. the idea is to remove the ram form the equation so you know why prime is failing.

you can assess the FSB limit of your motherbord by dropping the cpu multi to say 6 and uping the fsb until it starts failing, as you know the cpu will be good at these speeds you know its not that creating the fails.

but at the moment, go into your bios, and changes the timings as far as they will go. the finding the FSB limit is only relay a troubleshooting exercisers as most motherbords will be able to hande a highly OC Q6600.

He means the 4-4-4-12 / Memory timings.

Lower numbers are " tighter " i.e run faster.

5-5-5-15 would be slacker , for instance.

You're running 8 gig of ram , just noticed.

What volts are you running through the NB ( Northbridge ) ?

Im at 402! So far so good! Temps circa 52C. Not sure what im running through the NB, can i tell by CPUZ? or is it known by another name? Im using Abits guru.

Steve

Settle on 400 fsb.

Run some stress tests , to judge stability.

Its easy to boot into windows on an overclock , to make it 24/7 usable is different.

Prime95 latest version stressing all 4 cores since 1pm today....so far! I cant seem to move the slider in guru by the small amount remotly from my laptop in my lounge! When i pop down to my office at the end of the garden where the PC is, i will try to get it setled dead on 400. Also, is it worth me droping the vcore volts down a bit, see what i can get away with?
If all is well after leaving it overnight on Prime, should i transfer the settings in guru to the bios?
And then i need to move on to the memory settings.....!

Ok its crashed. Two of the cores fatal errored in prime, then it froze up. So im off for a walk down the garden! I will take this opertunity to free up the mempry settings, they are 4.4.4.12.2T, should i set these all to the highest i can, then resume where i left off?

Me thinks you are taking the p***.

To get it stable , up the vcore to 8.5V .

Though this will probably destroy your collection of inter-species pron .

Good Luck , if the temps get too high then try Water cooling - I recommend 2 buckets poured over the motherboard.
