Im about to order my G0 and some new ram but already have my very good 965p DS3 humming away. Am i going to encounter any problems trying to get my Q6600 overclocked on this board or do the p35 boards offer something better suited to quad cores?

i know they offer 1333fsb support and in some cases ddr3, but for the moment that isnt what i need.

Quad cores should overclock better on p35 based boards with uprated cpu core circuitry. More phases are generated to give a more smooth cpu voltage. However it is pin compatable across p965 and p35 so you have the option to try it and then if u think u could get more with a p35 board u have the option to upgrade it too.

The P965 DS3 will overclock a Q6600 to ~2.9-3ghz (mine did 2.99ghz).

If you're happy with 3ghz then there's no need to change it. If you're looking more then you'll have to go for a P35.

Reviving an old thread... just got a Q6600 in my P965-DS3.

Can't seem to get it stable past 3240Mhz (360*9). It will run at 390x8 so it's not entirely FSB-limited, but I'm still wondering if it might be something to do with the board as I think 3240 is quite low for a Q6600 G0 these days?

Though judging by what Cob said, I'm doing quite well to get to 3.24, especially bearing in mind that I have 4 sticks of RAM?

The newer BIOS's seem to have aided Q6600 clocking on the board.

As said above, whack up the FSB and MCH voltages. Someone in the Q6600 overclocking database has got theirs upto 3.6ghz on a P965-DS4, so the chipset can handle decent clocks. Tho the DS4's power allocation is a bit better than the DS3's.

I've had my P965-DS3P up to 450 with my Q6600 but never primed it to see if was stable, primed it at around 425 but have it running at the mo at 400.

I think the DS3P has the same circuitry as the DS4 minus the fancy heatpipes so maybe this is something to do with it.
