Right I went into my local NAAFI and they are selling a 60gb Japanese PS3 launch console(was 479) with 2 free games for 299.99 Euros. To me this seems like a great deal. I haven't looked fully through the FAQ as I'm not sure everything is answered there, but I do have a few questions:

Are most/all games region free? I know not all BRs are but what region BRs will I have to buy to work on it?

Would Sony Europe be happy to replace it if I have any problems?

I take it that the machine will have the English language?

What about power supply and plugs?

Any thing I have to watch out for or consider before getting it?

Sorry for being rather lazy but I appreciate the views of the "experts" ;) on here.

All PS3 games are region free.

Region C or Region free BR's will work.

The machine will have an English option.

I think any power plug should work (like the ones for PSU's).

There shouldn't be anything worrying to look out for, just that you cant play European or American BR's or normal DVD's.

Not sure about the Sony Europe thing. Make sure it comes with a warranty too :).

I'd rather get a UK model PS3, 40Gb and have a guaranteed warranty, they are like £300 now for one with what, 2 games?

Also what's the point in getting a Jap PS3, you need to buy Jap PS2 games so may as well just get a 40Gb, unless 20Gb of space is really that important to you.

Not that good a deal IMO, for £232.

The only real benefit of owning a 60Gb over a 40Gb would be PS2 backwards compatibility. Which of course will be locked to NTSC/J, so a complete
waste of time unless you collect Japanese RPGs :p

Thanks Nymins

The point was I'm not too bothered about playing PS2 games as I have none and it is 100 euros cheaper than buying a PAL one in the shops here. Thought I maybe able to save myself some money whilst getting one of the better models etc but if it isn't worth it with the warranty etc then I may just leave it.

The only real benefit of the 60 over the 40 is the PS2 compat really. If you can get a warranty go for it, if not spend £28 more and get a 40Gb from the internet. (£260)

Without games though. :p

I thought there weren't any good games out for the PS3 anyway :p I'll see if I can grab myself a GT5P pack.

Thanks Jihad, appreciated :)

If you have already played many of the multiplatform games on 360 then I'd agree, not all that many PS3 games out at the moment. :)

I think I'm like a lot of people in terms that I'm getting one for Blu-Ray first and games like Uncharted etc are currently more of a bonus as I have my 360 to play on :)

Anyway second half of the footy is on so must get back to that.

if you have no interest (or little) interest in ps3 games and backwards compatibility and blu ray is what your buying it for then the PAL version definitely the one to get.
