Asus GeForce 9800 GTX detailed and pictured

Ten more days and those who don't have a 8800 card can finally think towards upgrading to a GeForce 9 series card as the 9800 GTX is on its way to stores. One manufacturer that surely won't miss the April release is Asus and its very own GeForce 9800 GTX is detailed just below. The card itself is named EN9800GTX/HTDP/512M and it features everything you're expecting including - PCI-Express 2.0, DirectX 10.0 and OpenGL 2.0 support, 512MB of GDDR3 memory and triple-SLI.

Set to have stock clocks, Asus' card has the GPU at 675 MHz, the 128 Stream Processors at 1688 MHz and the memory at 2200 MHz while a factory-overclocked 'TOP' model is likely also in the works but will arrive at a later date (later than April 1st).

Boasting a 256-bit memory interface, Asus' 9800 GTX is basically your stock everything card with the exception of a lovely sticker. The price tag of this GeForce 9800 GTX will be under $350.

That cutting edge is getting a little blunt now don't ya think? Ohh, an extra SLi connector, 200MHz memory increase and 25MHz core speed increase? nVidia you've out done yourself this time.

I sincerely hope AMD/ATi release RV770 sooner rather than later just to stick it to nVidia.

It's interesting 'all the features we would be expecting' would include 256meg video memory less than the previous GTX card. Have our expectations got that low?

Just imagine if the 9800GTX had 1GB of ram and a 512bit bus, everyone would be going crazy for one.
Aye but that would be something new, Nvidia don't want us to have anything new yet. :o

I was actually waiting for this card but fancied a change to ATI for a bit, this 9800 GTX looks like a complete and utter waste of time to me as I've already owned an 8800 GTX before and this is a downgrade. Looks like Nvidia want to play us for chumps and I'll still recommend the GTS 512MB and GTX 768MB to people instead of this.

I suppose the good news is that this will push down 8800 GTX prices for people who need more memory and more bandwidth, so I guess this pointless waste of plastic does do something useful after all.

I think calling it a downgrade is a bit harsh, for sure if you have a 8800gtx you wouldnt get much going to a 9800GTX but I bet in most things it will be faster than a 8800GTX unless you hit the 512MB barrier.

No I know from experience that losing the bandwidth/framebuffer of the GTX can be detrimental in certain situations, especially for people who run high resolutions or love to slap on loads of AA and AF like I do.

This card is a literal downgrade for anyone with an 8800 GTX I'm afraid, the specs are right there.

OK looking at the 3D Mark 06 Top list Ulfhedjinn linked...

I officaly declare that this card is an absolute load of crockery.

Dont think I need to post the reasons do I?
