Exactly, why bother shipping out cards that are a minority market when you can just sit back carry on selling old gear off instead until there's actual competition? It makes perfect business sense.

Eh, true, but what exactly gives better sales than a flawless launch of a new product with rave reviews and no competition? Riddle me that. :p

I had one 2 months ago

Ran it at 820/2000/2200 24/7

8800GTS 512mb.

Wonder if people will be able to flash their 8800 GTS 512mb with a 9800 GTX bios :p

If this cards performance is between GTX and Ultra, and its cheaper to produce then from Nvidias perspective its a good card surely
Also seen this card o/c very well in previews, 850 core, 2260 shaders and 2450 memory

If spec is to go by then it will probably be behind a GTX.

I suppose the good news is that this will push down 8800 GTX prices for people who need more memory and more bandwidth, so I guess this pointless waste of plastic does do something useful after all.
Just bought a secondhand 8800gtx yesterday to go SLI....

As this new 9800gtx gpu card with it 256bit memorybus looks like a waste of time to me,,as i want my FPS to go up at high res with lots of AA and AF (not down ;))

(But then again,,,knowing my luck the benches of this new 9800gtx will most likely be great)

oh well looks like my 8800gtx stays for a while longer, was looking foward to somthing new:(

So was I, in fact I built me PC in december with a cheap 2180 cpu and a 8800GT thinking it was only going to be a temp stop gap until the Intel Q9450 came along and the 9800GTS

Now we're almost there I've given up on the Q9450 because of the ridiculous prices and got a second hand Q6600 for £120 from the MM, thats running at 3.5gig. I've also decided to stick with the 8800GT for now because in all honesty I have a 22" monitor and as of yet the few games I play run beautifully on it and theres no need to upgrade.

I'm thinking of sticking to my setup for a while and wait for the Q9450's to become really common and cheap, and possibly hold out for a new ATI series or the Nvidias true replacement to the 8xxx/9xxx series cards. No rush! :)

EO: Right so we're going to launch the new 9800GTX, a very exciting event for nVidia and as you all know they're basically an overclocked version of the highly successful 8800GTS G92. And soon we will see the release of 9800GTS too, which is identical to our current 8800GTS line.
Marketing exec: Hang on I was not consulted on this, why replace 8800GTS with something exactly the same? Don't you think the consumers will know?
CEO: Listen, I'm well bloody aware of this, I'm not an idiot, there're a lot of idiots out there, this new release will shift by the truck loads, 9 is a very big step up from 8, you hear me.
