for anyone not having the 8 series aka people with the 7 series, or X1000 series this would be a good upgrade.

No it wouldn't, only if your definately going to buy 3x of these cards you should get one, if not, then you buy one now at only £158, no point buying a one at a higher price. :)

Lots of people like that in my neighbourhood though :P
740MHz is hardly a bad overclock. :D
No you're right but i was thinking about why it won't get any higher on the memory front, his memory is a fair bit quicker than mine and memory speeds are all important @ that bus width.

I think it looks like a shoe TBH, I really liked the old 8800 GTS/GTX coolers.

Agreed with the last statement - I still like mine actually. Looks all big and burly and awesome. The coolers really do give the impression of 'this card means business'... But the 8800 GT cooler gives more of an impression of 'this is a business card'.

Well the memory is rated for 1GHz so it should at least do that.

Even so we are still talking a tiny overclock over stock here. It makes next to no noticeable difference. I run it at stock speeds in everything but Crysis.

I remember seeing that nVidia said they had the GT200 ready or whatever it's called. That's marketing bull imo. If it was ready, they wouldn't be trying to outdo ATi with old tech now, would they?

There's no need until ATI actually bring R700 out, or are close to bringing it out.

Nvidia can just sit back on their laurels and laugh as people keep paying a premium for old stuff based on G80, rather than spend time and money shipping new gear all over the place.

They might even be waiting for 8800 stock to dry up, either way is an easy ride for them.

I see your point. I'm not so sure, ATi seem to be kicking nVIDIA in the nuts in the low-end sector. I mean, how many people will buy the fastest, biggest and best? Only enthusasts, and that's less than 1% of the market.

Not just enthusiasts by cards like 9600GT and 8800GT you know. NV most likely do have the GT200 ready but they want to milk the 8800 for everything its worth now.

Exactly, why bother shipping out cards that are a minority market when you can just sit back carry on selling old gear off instead until there's actual competition? It makes perfect business sense.
