*** England vs. New Zealand Cricket (Spoilers) ***

Good to see them both reach the century mark and the relief on Strauss' face was great.

Declare with a lead of 500?

Difficult, we need a lot of time to bowl them out on this pitch, but as it's a good pitch we need a pile of runs to defend. I'd say bat till lunch tomorrow or maybe half way through the morning session, we lead by 380 now, should be 460 or so by the end of the day.

Bat for an hour in the morning then go all guns blazing at them, safe in the knowledge they won't get the 550 we set them, however attacking we set the field. Great from Strauss and Bell today and a nice little cameo from Colly too, shame he couldn't keep it going or he would have had a 50 in no time :p

They're not going to score 500 in the last innings no matter how flat the pitch is.

England have made 400+ in 4 sessions, if we declared now they'd have 6 sessions to get the runs. You sure they aren't going to get them? It's only 3 an over or so, and remember based on the first innings Anderson is a big drag on our bowling attack, he gets carted for 15 an over for long and the kiwis might start to believe.

I'm not saying it's likely, to be honest I'd hope the game is over without going into the 5th day but it's not impossible...

Great days cricket. Bells century impressed me, he has the class and the talent to dominate and he should be playing like that every game.

Great innings by Strauss too, played the anchor to Bell and later Collingwood and Ambrose well. Think he's just played him self into the 3 test series against New Zealand at home.

Then they need to prove they can play exactly the same way against better bowling lineups such as South Africa later in the summer.

I would declare over night as 500 is a huge target, as Bumble said if they get that then you just shake their hand and say well played. Can see them batting for an hour though, try and get the lead to 550 and Strauss given the chance to get his 200 which I can understand.

Think it might depend on the conditions too - if it's overcast in the morning with our swing bowlers it might be worth declaring so we can stick them in and try to get some early wickets, if it's another glorious day then whack it about for an hour, see if we can add 50 runs or more then put them in.

Not to mention it'll annoy the hell out of their openers to go out and have to chase the ball around for 10 overs, then get changed and bat. That's actually the best reason to keep batting for a little while.

I'm sure they will keep going, Strauss has never made a first class double hundred, let alone in a test. Vaughan will feel he owes him the opportunity.

Well Strauss and Ambrose went quite quickly, Strauss did get his career best first class score.

We're scratching along at 2/3 an over here . Cloud cover that might go later in the day. If we're not scoring we should be out having a go at them. We're just giving them a bit of confidence through catching atm.

Only we could not declare with a 525 run lead!!

EDIT: Well done Broad, he's decided to hit them. And suddenly half way through an over we declare!!! They need 553.

222/5 at stumps. Anderson was awful today; Broad was good; Sido a bit anonymous; Panesar got a couple of wickets but still seemingly refused to mix it up. Fair play to Fleming, ends with an ave of 40 and a great captain :)

Yeh from what I saw Anderson had a shocker. He just seems very easy to attack. Broad sounded quality, he could become a very important player for us. He has the batting of a genuine number 8. Another 3 years of international batting experience could see him try and get his average into the high 20's.

Know what you mean with Monty, he just seems to refuse to do it, something the coaches should be drilling into him. He needs to do it to make that step up.
