Hi All,
I recently aquired an old PC with a Pentium D 805 inside. The motherboard is very outdated and it can't be overclocked. I want to use the PC to run VST audio plugins. can somebody suggest a decent motherboard that I could get good OC results from. Also, I have searched already for such boards but all of the boards suggested are no longer on sale or not available in ireland or uk...

thanks in advance

You can put an 805 into almost any modern motherboard and it'll work just fine. 805's are fabulous clockers but the heat generated is quite incredible, almost on a par with a heavily overclocked Quad-core.

The new Foxconn P35 board looks like good value at £52+delivery, or, if you need mATX then the Abit I-ND73 nForce 630i should be a good bet with that CPU.

The low initial FSB should mean you can get very good overclocks without needing extreme chipset voltages on a modern board which means at least the chipset will run cool, and you'll be able to use the carpiest RAM, but I would definitely recommend as really good aftermarket cooler - something like an AC Freezer 7 Pro should be the bare minimum, or, if you can stretch to it, a Thermalright Ultra 120 or Tuniq Tower will be a sound investment.
