...off ebay for £209.52, it comes with a Lowepro bag and the kit lens. Quite happy about that, was just wondering whats must have accessories for it?
Also I want to know it accepts Compact Flash,is it just Type I and II?Whats the max memory capacity for it?
So many questions but so excited about my new camera!:D

Thanks!

UV filter, ND Grad filter, circular Polarizing filter, tripod, remote release, battery grip... none of these are strictly needed but they're all nice to have.

Thanks for replies so far. Does anyone know what the max capacity for the memory cards are?Thinking of getting a 4gb card but not sure whether it will work.

4GB will work for sure. The camera uses the FAT32 file system so you're only limited by the card manufacturers' ability to cram more flash memory into their product. There's an interesting discussion here on flickr about this very issue; Seems huge cards will work but the 350D can't format those larger than 8GB: http://www.flickr.com/groups/digital_rebel_faq/discuss/72157600053693694/

Edit: Oh yeah, don't forget to buy a quality card from a reputable retailer. I'm using a generic 2GB one in mine and it really chugs along compared to a friend's Sandisk when writing RAW + JPEG.

Another question,I heard that the battery on the 350d isn't that good,so will probably get a spare battery. Is it important to buy an official battery or any unofficial ones from the auction site will do?

unofficial is ok, dont worry about them there all good.

compact flash
type 1 is slim line type type, ie the usual cards you get now
type 2 is fatter small step on them ala ibm microdrives (hitachi now).

cheap camera enjoy it......

My official battery lasts 4-500 shots with IS being used, the better battery I bought which is slightly higher mAh lasts about 150 shots more!

I would NOT buy the cheapo batteries though, I boguht one off ebay for like a fiver which was 1300mAh or something like that and I would often find on heavy shoot sessions the LCD would display "Err" - it would ONLY do this when using the cheap battery so obviously these batteries are heap for a reason :p

The 350D has no built in dust remover so a sensor cleaning kit is essential if you intend on buying another lens!

Here's what I use for the cleaning :

Looks good, is it water/rain proof?

Currently trying to blag a mate into selling me his Lowepro Micro Trekker for £35 :p

I've never had any rain issues with mine and the material seems similar to the Crumpler bags I've stroked in camera shops so I would assume it's at least water resistant! for under £20 though can't complain!

I was reading threads about the 350d and someone said you can use old SLR lenses for the 350d and was wondering how can you tell which one is compatible? As Brighton has a lot of 2nd hand shops I think I might try and have a look and see if I could pick up cheap lenses.

Thanks.

You can use FD lenses on any EOS body with an FD to EOS adapter ring off ebay for about a fiver~

I had one beore but finding decent examples of old lenses round here was a problem so resold the adapte on.

You don't have any AF remember so you can only shoot in TV or full manual and you gotta use the lightmeter in the viewfinder or LCD to expose your shots :)

The 350d arrived today, had a quick play around with it before work and I think its pretty awesome.Granted I have never used a DSLR before I can't compare but I'm pretty chuffed with it.Still trying to get to grips with using which mode for what. One question for Landscape photography (scenery, buildings) what mode would you recommend? Also if I want to focus on a certain object and have the background blurred should I use portrait mode or A-Dep?

One more thing, the Canon 50mm 1.8 I hear is good for portraits, apart from that is it any good for Landscape photos?

id whack it in AV mode and select the relevent aperture personally.

at F1.8 youll find quite a shallow focus (i.e. - only things at a certain distance will be in focus rather than the whole subject) but as long as you can open it up to a higher F number then i cant see why not. its quite a short lens at 50mm too but landscapes youll probably want more in the pic anyway.

my cheapo batts last for ages! - i have 2000mAh in a battery grip and love em especially when the originals are only 720mAh.
