All this Tibetan malarkey in the news...

That did my head in. Why does China think that Tibet is a part of its sovereignty? Why did no-one (like us in the West) step in and stop this in 1959? Was it a case of "Sod you, you've got nothing we want in return"?

that and best not **** off one of the worlds biggest armies, and try and persuade the population so recently after the second worlds war to go to war once again.

Why should our men have to die, in a conflict which in no way involves us?

Star out swearing.

Yeah that would almost be as retarded as caring about Poland.

But we didn't care about Poland, the reason Britain and France declared war on German was that nether country could allow one country to have complete dominance over Europe. Poland was just a convent excuse to use.

Britain only started to decolonize after 1945. As much as people would like to think it's always been a morally upstanding country, less than 50 years before before China invaded Tibet, the British and Europeans were happily laying claim to land in Southeast asia, that didn't even border their own countries. Colonialism isn't a phenomenon that ended in 1850.

As mentioned, the annex of Tibet took place very soon after WWII. Britain was exhausted after the war, and was in no position to start aggressive action against China. The chinese won't have forgotten the Opium wars, where the British essentially fought 2 wars against china to force them to allow Britain to import opium into china.

Odd that they don't teach that alongside the tales of Thomas Becket.

Yeah, you can quote. Well done?

I'm curious how you relate sending troops to some country across the world to fight a war against a nation far more powerful than us, to attempting to stop the German advance across Europe before we where completely surrounded and probably unable to withstand an invasion.

I considered answering this question, but it strikes me that you are an argumentative (and rather spammy) person, and are likely to take thread entirely off topic.

Almost 6k posts in less than a year... :D

So assume what you will, but keep it to yourself. :) (And yes I realise he's not capable of doing so).

You're a pretty awful troll. No sass to your posts. Distinctly sass lacking. Must try harder C-

China's invasion by 40,000 troops in 1950 was an act of unprovoked aggression. There is no generally accepted legal basis for China's claim of sovereignty.

Well there's a fairly exhaustive list of allegations, though to be fair, hardly form a neutral source.

From what I can gather China has made a claim of Tibet since the 1300s or something like that.
