Just got Gears of War and it took 20 minutes to install....screen then went blank and CD stopped spinning....looked on drive, no files, no nothing.

Hit the Control Panel and launched it from there, as soon as I get to change some video options, it crashes to desktop stating Gears of War has stopped working !!

WTF?

Never, Never in all my gaming days has a game installed so poorly and failed so dramatically.

**looks on internet hoping to find a patch or I shall burn this waste of DVD**

Anyone else had this ?

I refuse to plau console ports full stop :)

Only one i'd buy is Mass Effect that they're working on now, as they are redesigning it for PC, not porting it.

I tried to force myself to like this game as everyone seems to love it.

I can play it, I just cant enjoy it and about 1/8th way through I formated PC and did back up my SAVES but aint sure I will ever resume it again.

Designed for console play so i'd expect it to be basic really and take 500 bullets to kill someone. Looks good, was going to get a 360 just for it, but i heard you spend the bulk of the game just using cover and hiding behind walls. I suppose for the console users that's something new :)

Needs the game patch and the windows live patch.

Do a search have posted both linkw before.

Its worth it plays very well.

I thought it was a fun game, would be better without the stuttering and save game issues to be sure though.

I installed it on my vista X64 and I can tell you it did take me about 45 minutes to decompress all the files from it when it was installing, try reinstalling it?

I've been playing gow for the last few days and up to now it's been problem free. Only (minor) gripe is the slight stutter when passing each checkpoint, other than that it's been plain sailing.

It might be worth noting that I only made an offline account though, I didn't bother setting up a windows live account since I've heard that it can mess with the game.

Maybe try reinstalling and only making an offline account, you'll have to dl the patch manually and won't be awarded achievements (big wow) but atleast you might get the game running ?

one of my best online games!! very tacticle n once u understand the gameplay! its well fun!
2 right on that one i mean what a game looks most pleasant in dx10 with aa:cool: one of the best ports ever i mean they spent 9 months trying to make this game right for PC it is a lot of time when most game ports are banged out in 2 weeks:p

Ok, it would crash when I autorun from the DVD.
It has been uninstalled and reinstalled twice now (and yes decompression takes ages) but once that has done, nothing else happens, the installer closes and the DVD stops, nothing, not even shortcuts on the desktop?

So I found the startup file in the Windows game folder and ran it from there, managed to run it at least.
I have installed this patch:

http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/action/gearsofwar/download.html?sid=6187027

is there another patch to download??

It still crashed with this patch installed the following message
"Gears of War has stopped working the application will now close and Microsoft will provide information if available to resolve"

Or some bumf to that effect.:p

You need to install Games For Windows Live before it will even run properly. Then the game will auto restart. Then it has 2 patches to install which fix the broken save games issues (these appear when you try to launch it). Much better than the 360 version but astill less than perfect as lags badly in places even on high end hardware and ingame AA is for Vista only under DX10.

Also the no DVD patch messes it up so it will not work so you have to fully update the game with the original game DVD then the nodvd patch works fine.

I lost track of the number of times I completed this game either in single player or multiplayer co-op. Worked the first time I installed it although I did initially get really bad stuttering with 2Gb ram and fragmented partition.
