I was just wondering if anyone could pass along some advice.

What was training like?
How did you prepare?
What's life like after training?

I'm thinking about applying sometime next year and it would be great to get some advice.

Thanks

As others have said, look at websites and forums that specifically focus on the police force.

This website is great. If you have questions ask there, a fair number of the members are police officers so the answers will come from first hand experience.

Membership of BNP or similar

The British National Party is an organisation whose aims and objectives are contrary to a police officer's duty to promote racial equality. If you are or have been a member of the BNP or a similar organisation, your application is extremely unlikely to succeed.

Are they allowed to do that?

There is a small checkbox and a comments section on the initial application.

Basically, if you are / have been a part of the BNP, you won't be accepted.

I thought about this but the fact you have to wait 2 years before specialising and even then have no guarantee of making it where you want to go put me off.

Of course you don't have a guarantee, it's based on your PDR so you'll be evaluated based on past performance, experience etc. 2 years isn't a long time, and it's far better to have two years of probation (at least) than allowing people to specialise immediately.

True, but from what I've heard most people apply for Traffic and a small percentage get in. How small, 'small' is, i don't know. Though, looking at the options a number of them seem very interesting. Armed Response, CID, Mounted Police etc.

Quite rightly they want you to get some proper experience of general policing before letting you specialise. There's no point in making you a trafpol if you haven't the faintest idea how to deal with the public. And yes, I know there are some obvious remarks to make here...

Oh I don't mind the 2 years and it makes complete and total sense - provided there was a guarantee at the end. As it stands, doing 2 years then finding you've next to no chance of getting where you wanted would grate somewhat :)

That's utterly pathetic. In a 'free country' and 'democracy' it shouldn't be relevant as to what your political standards or ideals are. If you sign up to do a duty for your society and country, then good on you!

Judging from the amount of muslim bashing that happens in here.....

Anyway, it's a crying shame that you can't be a nationalist and join the NATIONAL police force.

OP: good on you for wanting to join mate. Got a lot of time for people who want to serve their country and their society.
