Hurrah - payday :)

...And that's why they're so overpr...sorry... expensive in the first place ;)

<snip>

I agree that the Golfs are expensive but I really do love the look and feel of them, so it's not so much a status symbol thing. Like you say, I'd be considering a Beemer if that were true.

Although This particular example is trade, I'm sure it can be had cheaper private. I did see a nice yellow one on Autotrader but the "one lady owner from new" description scared me :)

I'm going to shock the world but... Golf for me. Prefacelift Cupras look horrible.

This is true, i just don't think the Golf is worth the extra money, i suppose you could sort the looks of the cupra given enough time and money but then this defeats the object.

I was looking for a 1.8T Golf but quickly came to the conclusion i could get my current car which was better specced much bigger for much less, granted its not as fast nor chuckable but that doesn't bother me so much atm.

I'd allow myself to be ripped off for the Golfs 'image' to avoid the looks of the Cupra, though. It's nasty. Especially the back. Whereas the rear view of the Mk4 Golf is probably the best of all that sort of hatchback.

Actually I'd buy a Bora 1.8T, remap it, drop it a little and fit some sort of OEM looking bodykit and a lip spoiler.

didn't you negate all savings though by buying oem RS4 wheels :p

Seeing as i got the car around £800 below its list price, nope :)

Yep that would have been my choice, great value for money, all depends if you need the hatchback or not :)

VW seems to have one of the better owners communities as well - most of the people I've seen on Leon forums are chavs and most of the ones on BMW forums are the worst kind, arrogant chavs who think they are better than everyone else.

Fox...Dare I suggest flicking through a copy of the current Performance VW magazine?

I have a funny feeling you may like quite a bit of it...

This is why I said I'd only really have a Leon in Yellow or Black... for some reason, the back end looks very sparse in detail or form (at least to me) in silver or other colours. Insurance on the Cupra is 1 group above the Golf as well I believe, although the difference in £££ isn't *that* huge.

I don't think there's much escaping the fact that black Golf GTIs do look very nice indeed.

Cheers for the input lads, just have to hope I find something shortly - I'm definitely not forking out to keep my oil burner on the road come the MOT. :D
