Rio Ferdinand - England captain

Not sure what you mean by that. The only thing I remember being reported about Terry is one night of drunkenness when he went home with his bird! Ferdinand has had a fair few things reported against him. Much higher profile things.

I meant that you seem to have an impressive list of his misdermeanours and I was being sarcastic. Never mind though the moment has passed.

The only other thing I can think off with Terry was when he was in trouble with Jodie Morris and Frank Lampard iirc unless thats the same incident your on about.

it is fact, I've seen it :o

lol, TMI

Nope, thats not when I was on about. I thought Lamps had always been pretty clean-cut off-pitch?

Rio is the best of a bad bunch.

Terry certainly doesn't deserve the captaincy. His no-show vs. Croatia and his general on field antics set a very bad example.

JG Might be able to shed some light on this but I am sure there was an incident just as JT was getting in the Chelsea side along with Jodie Morris and Frank Lampard was at West Ham. I think a doorman or a barman got bottled off one of the three of them at a private members club. I think all three were detained but as it was settled pretty much straight away no charges were brought against any of them

I think Gerrard was captain against Croatia as Terry was injured. Might be wrong on that though

To put it into perspective Tony Adams was reviled from all angles for drink/driving. Rio has done that and much, much more and no-one bats an eye any more.

To be fair i don't think being given the arm band makes much of a difference to how a player acts at all.

If you're a leader on the pitch you're a leader on the pitch, regardless of what's on your arm you'll still be trying to motivate people and you'll still be vocal...

Rio has also done more than his fair share for charity as well. Yes he has been banned four times (once for drink driving and three for speeding) and yes he failed to do a drugs test. So how is that much much more than Tony Adams.

To get a little more perspective the drink driving offence was over ten years ago and he has served his punishment for it. Much younger than the already established Tony Adams if we are comparing players. Allegedley he is tee total also.

In fact out of all three potential captains the only one not to be caught for drink driving or any kind of public embarresment is Gerrard. Do you think he is worthy of the armband

Tony Adams was lambasted for Drink/Driving.

Rio has done the drink/driving thing long after the ad campaigns and education of society have taken place. However, it isn't just that, he's done the other driving offences, as well as the drugs cheat thing.

All players do work for charity now. It is expected. I would be gobsmacked if they didn't.

So your blaming the captain for Englands failures? God help Ferdinand in that case...

where did i say that exactly? you said...
I wasn't aware that a captain gets chosen from how your performing? I thought it was down to the influence you have on your team, the respect and the ability to shout out orders etc?

and 'terry is still the best leader we have'

to which i made my reply which was perfectly true. he's not in the best form and despite your opinion of him being the best leader we have he didn't exactly inspire the rest of the team last season. I didn't say it was his fault we're out at any stage. simply as is fact he hasn't exactly proved himself as england captain to the degree where no one else should get an opportunity.

Rio deserves a chance but I'd rather give it to Terry for this one and give the Frenchies a hammering. Can't see Rio being permenant captain.

I see my question about Terry's alleged racism has gone unanswered.

what was the question? the incident over his alleged racism was him allegedly calling Ledley King a black monkey during a match. Some of Kings team mates went crazy over it if i recall but don't think it was ever confirmed. I also seem to remember the assault charge being against an asian lad but can't remember it clearly so could be off with that.

On the King incident he supposedly called him a lippy monkey, which I read as being the equivalent of a cheeky monkey...

see i'd take it as a very odd insult to give to someone on the football pitch, coupled with how the spurs team mates reacted much more irrately than say if he's called him an ****** **** (sub in your own) or some such which i'd guess is quite common between players.

however that bit is purely speculative on my part.

So would I if he didn't know him, but they played Sunday League together.
