BREAKING NEWS ALERT! Antarctica gone down to the pub

I think this is really a very silly way to look at it. The percentage shouldn't matter, the fact is we're losing it. How big does it need to be before people say "oh hold on a min...now we're *******"

It just seems fashionable to joke about topics like these these days, and if even mildly concerned then you get blasted with stupid comments like

"we're all going to die "
etc

There are now millions of scientists out there that now conclusively agree that we are contributing to global warming and that it is becoming a real threat, yet arm chair conjecturer's on here think they know more, I suggest they get in contact with the relevant environmental departments and disclose their scientific findings.

So you're saying a ship is not as dense as water? Do you know what buoyancy is?

stop before you embarras yourself further.

As a fun childrens experiemtn, put some ice-cubes in a glass with water and measure the water level, once the ice has melted measure again.

Its like the whole "whats heavier, 1 ton of feathers or 1 ton of iron". Density matters not, just the dispalcment

Irony, read the thread before posting. :D

But yeah, you better tell all those climatologists that ice caps melting does not increase sea level.

Crisis averted, we can give D.P. a medal for proving Ken Livingstone wrong.

Hmmm - many a time I've been for a meal and I'll have a pint of diet coke filled with ice cubes right to the top.
I usually let all the ice melt and not once has my glass ran over.

Amazingly, he did... way before your post...

You had clear reasoning in your post, even going to the effort of using terms like "net change" and displacement.

Like I said, one of us is big enough to admit to a retard moment. It isn't you. :p

meh turns out salt water is more dense than fresh so it will add 2.6% more than it displaced.

We where taught with tap water in school, where it doesn't add anything.

And as for reasoning, it's generally best to put your reasoning forward when asking a question, so the other person understands what your asking better.

Arrrrggggh this topic is too complicated, I don't think I've ever been right and wrong then right again then wrong again and so on so many times in one thread before.

Shall we just leave it to the climatologists? :p
