OCUK, BENQ or ACER 24" monitor

i got the benq fp421w a few months ago, so ive had time to asess how good it is,gaming wise, i cant notice any ghosting, games @1920x1200 look amazing,(make sure you have a graphics card capable of that res) as for watching movies, its fantastic, watched a few dvd's on blu ray on this monitor and it certaintly does them justce.

Thing is the FP421w is a fair bit more in price so would expect it to be pretty good. The concern really is these cheaper monitors. I've got an LG22" and to be honest I've never really liked it - its OK but you know the screen is cheap if you get me :)

PANIC - that would be really helpful. I need to order all the parts by the end of the week.

BENQ 241W is an awsome piece of kit and has a panel superior to the other cheaper panels. Every time I go back to mine now...Im like WOW.

How's the input lag on the 241W? I don't remember the URL but I'm pretty sure it had obscenely high input lag - it's the site which compares lag and response times for screens if anyone has it bookmarked...

Well this is interesting. According to:

http://axofiber.no-ip.org/inside/monitor.lcd.panels.en.htm

Both the BenQ FP241VW and FP241WZ use the M240UW01 V2 panel. Whereas the BenQ FP241W uses the M240UW01 V0.

According to OcUKs prices, the former 2 seem to be more expensive than the latter. So (perhaps) it's a better screen after all .......... (not that any of this matters, until I've actually seen the image and am happy with it - that's what's most important).

Well, just received my replacement. Model # M240UW01 V2. Much better viewing angles than the TN (Obviously :p) Am chuffed it has the same panel as either of the BenQ's going at twice the price!

Excellent Service from OCUK, as ever!

Basically the OCUK panel I received (Model # M240UW01 V2) contains the BenQ panel described above at half the price as shown in the link, therefore I recommend the OCUK panel if you are willing to take a chance at a quality panel at a low price or pay for the certainty of the branded panels.

Well worth the punt IMHO.

Well, I think I'm going to gamble and go for an OCUK. With the other bits I need it just tips my £500 budget.

Cheers all :)

Can anyone post some pictures please. :D Of either the ocUK or the BenQ. Would really love to see the monitors on a person's desk. Just to get a feel for it.

Cheers.

Was just about to order and OC have the Samsung SM-245B in the B grade section for the same price.

However its showing as 6 in stock which is a bit odd. OC couldn't sell on monitors with dead pixels or excessive back light bleed - could they?

yeah they are usually retuened monitors. iirc u can ring 'em and ask whats up with the monitors. but basically if they were perfect they would not be selling them in the B section :/

This is the 24" OCUK albeit the TN version before I RMAd it for the correct *VA. Notice the reflection of the HDD cage on the right hand side of the screen! lol VA panel has a matt finish and is far less reflective of surrounding/overhead lights.

Its about different panel types. OCUK advertised the *VA panel and I (and many others) incorrectly received the lower quality TN instead. No probs in exchanging it though :)

*VA panels are less glossy, low reflection and most important of all have huge viewing angles e.g H/V 180/180 vs only H/V 170/160 thereby limiting picture distortion and discolouration when viewed from anywhere other than head on.

There is plenty of discussion on the panel type here if you are interested.

got my g2400w this morning :D
box was already opened and not sealed.... so a bad start

been on cod 4 all night 1920x1200 is pretty damn nice :D still get over 100fps with my x1900xt

does definately have 1:1 pixel mapping

i have to say that i notice ghosting compaired to my 19"sammy (4ms), but that did have some mild inverse ghosting which probably just gave a different viewing expierience rather than less actualy ghosting.

viewing angles seem much better than i was expecting.

one thing that suprised me was that i can see certain things i didnt before with my 19" sammy. some apps like msn messenger and my google mail look way different, i mean i can see colours that weren't there before.

appears to be no backlight bleed at all and haven't seen any dead pixels, but i'm not going looking too hard.

looks ok, thin black bezel all the way around, what can i say :)

yeah i know u want pics, will show some tomorrow :)

oh and hd films look great, i know the TN panels get a bad rep, but seriously they look stunning.

Glad you're happy with it Panic :)

Good luck with yours EddScott! Get some pics up when it arrives :D

Arr I'm still in 2 minds about whether to plump for one of these or a BenQ FP241W. Perhaps if I wait a bit the panel lottery will sort itself out... *shrug* :)

to try and put it into perspective, that's a 19" monitor on the right, but the 24" feels so much bigger when infront of it.
