Always stick to the speed limit...

I drive and I speed in motorways/double carriages only ... and when I am ****** off in the mornings in the bypass but never over 80mph and never putting in danger other cars. :D

As narrowminded as you lot, it seems to me.

Guess you are a child killer also then.

Dont lie to me and say you have never been over 30mph in a 30 zone either.

Speed isnt the problem here. Its a half arsed attempt by someone to cross a road thats gotten them a hospital stay.

Speed prevents the problem, and people want to stop problems before they happen dont they. Dont try and justify speeding in areas like that.

And fox, no, he wouldnt have been hit, i can guarantee you that. A second even would have been enough

One thing is for sure, you are in the wrong forums for this kind of thing. At least it can make you smile that most of their gas guzzler cars are being hit the worst by road tax increases and petrol prices rising.

How does speed prevent the problem of pedestrians not looking properly before wandering into the road? It doesn't, at all, not in the slightest.

It's like arguing for blunt knives for untrained idiots so when they cut themselves it won't be as deep, as opposed to actually teaching them how to use a knife to prevent cuts in the first place.

Ok look. Look at it this way, my mate looked, 3 seconds later he stepped in the road. On google map, roughly the car must have been 200 feet away when he looked, so how fast must the car have been travelling?

I agree with confused here your mate should have looked again and surely in those 3 seconds before he stepped out when the car was getting that much close he would have been able to hear it?

I don't to be honest, there is too much traffic, too many kids in the morning and afternoon, and I am usually quite tired so I tend not to go over 28/29mph.

I dont look one way at a junction then look away wait 3 seconds and pull out.. That would be suicide!

it would stop it happening though as the car would be able to break in time. There is no excuse for driving that fast.

And a car can still be driving quite quietly at 45 in say 5th gear, so dunno what some of you are going on about

You originally told us he didnt look. Please stop telling lies to save face.

Firstly you say the car was being 'ragged'. Now it's being driven at 45mph in 5th gear? Given you dont hold a full UK driving license what makes you think you can estimate the gear somebody was use when driving along a road like that?

As an aside, a car in 5th gear at 45mph is about as far from being 'ragged' as you can possibly get.

Speed prevents the problem

What prblem, people getting run over? So car doing 30mph automatically stop running people over?

Dont try and justify speeding in areas like that.

Areas like what? As pointed out in the other thread councils are blanketing 30mph zones across the land because it's been drilled into your stupid *insert Tabloid Paper (lets use the Daily Mail)* that they can't handle a car over seventy miles an hour. Funny how people managed to handle cars when they were crossply tyres and drum brakes, not a touch on the abilites of a modern day car.

And fox, no, he wouldnt have been hit, i can guarantee you that. A second even would have been enough

A second? One more second to move out of the road? If a second would have avoided him being hit, he must have been hit at the edge of the car not flat in the middle then?

He could get a better car with better brakes too, but that wouldn't change the fundamental cause of this accident....

i think he must have heard it while he was on the road, thats why he turned and tried to dodge it. Ive done that and i guarantee a lot of you have, a quiet road, you just casually walk on the road sometimes. It happened so quickly

So just to get this clear your idea of doing 45mph in 5th gear is ragging it? Now my polo with its 63bhp isn't exactly the worlds fastest car but even I wouldn't say 45mph in 5th is ragging it.

No, you don't just casually walk on the road. Again, we see the clear cause of this accident, and it certainly wasn't the speed the car was travelling at.

No, I always look both ways at least a couple of times - because I'm not a muppet, and don't want to be knocked down.

I think it's just been stated that you have no comprehension on the distances involved with a car or the reaction times of a driver - annnnd the engine noise of cars, at differnce revs.

Inappropriate speed is dangerous. This is completely and utterly unrelated to whatever the speed limit happens to be. It's as likely that the appropriate speed for a given section of road is above the speed limit for that section as it is to be below the speed limit for that section..

Your talking about inappropriate speed for the conditions, you can't just say "Speeding is bad" and that’s it.

Speeding in built up areas at busy periods = Stupid

Having a blast down a nice empty road which some numpty has made a 40 = No harm done

You can't let the driver take all the blame either, roads are dangerous and you should bloody well check carefully before crossing them. The last point is something I feel really needs to be taught more in school, far too many cocky kids around here who like to stroll across roads when they can see you coming.

I hope your mate gets better soon, but don't think that if everyone respected every speed limit all accidents would stop. You'll just get more zombies behind the wheel just doing what the signs tell them and not actually thinking about how to drive in the conditions around them.
