New PS3 2.2 Update now Live !!!!

Not a bad update, thanks for the Reg file, i was banging my head against the wall the other day trying to figure out why media player couldnt see some files yet nero streamed them fine.
thedoc46, I agree the new blu-ray and DVD feature is great though it should have been on there from the start.

The Media Player hack is easy, it's just a .reg file that you double click, job done... it can stream .mp4 files.

I've uploaded it to rapidshare

http://rapidshare.com/files/102228766/v4-WMP11-MP4.reg.html

Can confirm it's 100% safe, just a 5k registry key, that makes media player library add MP4 files, and allow them to be streamed to the PS3.

I've tried it on my Vista Ultimate x64 system, and an XP 32bit system.

V1N.

You seem quite knowledgeable so why do Microsoft disable this feature if its 100% safe no real reason surely

Feel like pasting the key here in a Code window for those of us who can't access rapidshare?

Much longer than the one I have used myself in the past to achieve the same thing. I will try to dig out the one I used if I can find it.

Ok a rephrase , why it not there ??

Because MS didn't make MP4 ;)
They want everyone to use thier own formats IE. wma wmv etc. (Incidentally, AVI is also a MS standard, although it has been much more widely adopted than the others)

Still waiting for someone mainstream to implement MKV here :( Have now got nearly a 100k file library stored in MKV, and it fits my needs perfectly other than not being supported by any mainstream hardware solutions.

the new mkv2vob is awesome (if its for Ps3 conversions)

I tried this myself for the first time a few days ago, and it really is worth getting.

Totally easy to use, it didn't transcode my files, and now they're all playable on the PS3, looking great, with 5.1 intact... though strangely the files don't play on my PC any more.

Anybody who wants to play .mkv files on their PS3 should grab this, honestly.

No effort, just give it a source file, an output file, and leave the next part to "automatic" so IF any transcoding is required, it'll perform it.

Very quick, very simple, and as I say, it works.
You just have to rename the .vob file to something else, .mp4 in my case (after using the afore posted reg hack) and the PS3 can stream it fine :)

Had a look at an Earth - The Power of the Planet 720p mkv rip earlier, and it looked great... that'll do until they release it on bluray :)

if you go to the settings tab you can get it to output there into mp4

although i thought the ps3 didnt do 5.1 through an mp4? hence the vob container

It didn't used to do 5.1 through the XMB, but it does since a few updates ago.
Definitely getting DD5.1 here as I type :)

Just tryed mkv2vob with 1 of my 2GB MTV files.

It messed up the aspect ratio =/

Using all default settings other than transcoder which was set to MPEG-2.

Any ideas?
