Team OcUK SETI@home News Vol. 11

Unfortunately it looks like the seti team needs an extra 500K a month just to maintain its position!

The other boinc teams are not fairing much better, even the combined shows us going down.

We'll all doomed Capt Mannering:p

Although since the seti news started (12 weeks) the weekly production has gone up from 700,000ish to well over a million (ie over 1 million a month more). if it can carry on going up at that rate, we would be able to see them off.

and meridian, i see that the stats have now caught up and show me ahead, even if it is only temporary.

Right, all decks cleared for action, and fleet ready for duty:

1 x Q6600 @ 3.6GHz
1 x E6600 @ 3.6GHz
1 x E2180 @ 3.1GHz
1 x E2180 @ 2.7GHz (**** nVidia 680i chipset)
1 x XP4600+ @ 2.7GHz

Reserves: 1 x Asus F3JP C2D laptop. Currently stood down.

All non-SETI units dumped, apart from LHC (sorry, but I like LHC). Let batttle commence!

Again, apologies for the lack of newsage :(

Didn't know about this client, Im off to google about it now - I have been running the standard BOINC client as a service for extra speed - hate to think I might have missed out on extra credit:mad:

tell me about running as a sErvice please, hate to think I might have missed out on extra credit too!!

I'm running vista64

Sorry K3v - must have missed this post.
When you install the Boinc Client - you get the option (on a windows box to run as a service), this means that seti runs always, no matter who is logged in, with no screen saver or graphics, pure data crunching. For home use it doesn't matter so much, but I have 'sneaked' it onto a few work PC's :p so it means that I dont have to be logged in, and in general the user is not aware that it is running in the background....:p:p

{edit}
Just seen your score and daily average - what you need to do is turn on the screensaver, set your cores to 1Ghz, run video encoding 24/7 and I might just catch you in about 3 months time!!!

No worries....

Thanks for the info, i think in the past, i tried to use it but couldnt seem to get it to work, probably me being dumb! I will try it again, i think for when I get a new quad core at work ( if i can get the admin password) , although IT where I work now are slow, so it might be a while before my upgrade.
if I sneak it on my machine, can I still access preferences etc?

edit..... thanks for the extra hints :) my score is hopefully still rising as im now running 24/7 at 3.7ghz except for power cuts of which there were two yesterday..... damn you pesky power cuts

We have a funny set up at work, so I can't access the preferences, unless I log in with the installer account. I set the client to run at 100% and it just sits there chugging away.

in case you had any difficultly finding it.

note, you need to take a bit of care getting the right version, e.g. are you running 32 or 64 bit, and which level of sse optimisation your cpu has, if its a conroe type one, you can use the intel ssse3 one.
