Hdtv upgrade

Using a Samsung LE40F86 here.

25000:1 contrast ratio, 100hz, 1080p and all the usual bits. Is a bit pricey compared to other makes but you get what you pay for. The xbox and Wii looks stunning on it. Especially the blacks.

ooh I ordered one of these, 1025ish quid with 5 year warranty
Sould come on friday along with gran turismo 5 :)

let the 1080p goodness begin

OLED is not going to become mainstream for quite a while yet considering the hefty price tag it carries for such small sets.

I wouldn't recommend a plasma unless your main use would be watching movies. LCD's are much better when it comes to gaming.

Take a look at the Toshiba 42X and 42Z series.

Why do you say LCD's are better for gaming?

Dont say screenburn because its not an issue anymore.

Yes it is.

Do you own a plasma and have suffered screenburn?

I game all the time on my panasonic pz70 50" plasma, and have not had any problems with screenburn.

visit the AVforums and you will see pretty much all plasmas now dont suffer from screenburn.

Perhaps you are getting confused with a bit of screen retention that some plasmas still suffer from?

A plasma is better for gaming on than an lcd due to response time.

Not played FF VII or Gran Turismo then? ;-) 8 hours isn't a "ridiculous number of hours" and some gamers play that length of time.

Plasmas now have anti screenburn protection in them, your argument was valid.... 3 years ago, now its just misinformation being spread by your good self.

I have no axe to grind, i have a 40" LCD and a 50" plasma, both cost the same amount, the plasma is the better set for gaming on.

I've seen plasma screenburn, the set has been left all day (9-5) on the same channel, with reduced contrast settings. Plasma has phosphur ghosting and ghosting between frames (post on av forums with screen captures, can't find it)

It won't be screen burn.

Panasonic?

from plasmatvreviews.

What is burn in? CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) display and Plasma TV use phosphors which are coated on their sub-pixels (red, blue and green). In high bright settings of your TV, or when a stagnant, bright image is left on the screen for a prolonged time, the sub-pixels that produce the image can be worn out, in other words, the phosphors become prematurely aged. This results in the permanent formation of the image, known as the screen burn in. Both CRT and Plasma TV are susceptible to burn in.

Do the latest Plasma TVs suffer screen burn-n? No, Plasma TVs, made in the last couple of years, adopt two techniques to handle this problem.

The new motion adaptive anti burn in technology makes the ghosting effects undetectable by TV viewer. It is found that the use of green phosphor increases the overall life of phosphors.

During your breaks just run colour cycles (red -> green -> blue -> black -> white). Plasmas completely destroy even the best LCD for vibrancy and black depth.

The plasma with screen burn is a Pioneer.

So because you read one post about a guy that got screenburn on his pioneer, you reject it as a medium for playing games on? :p

The PZ42/PZ50 panasonics are probably the best value HDTV's you can get right now, giving the best gaming experience you can get.

I dare say if you are playing games for 8 hours without changing the channel you have a few more issues to be worrying about more pressing than screenburn. :p

i always felt lcd's gave a pixel perfect picture....its why they dont look as good in sd.
i find that to be great in gaming though

but for movies plasma's still rule as u dont need to spend as much on getting a good one...also they have deeper blacks...super fast reponse times ....less grainy....free AA for low quality broadcasts

as for response times....u can get pretty low response times on large lcd's...mine has 4ms and zero ghosting(its 46").

I think that too, so far I've found LCD's to give a sharper image and Plasmas a cleaner one (Judging from an episode of Dexter in HD 720P, Freeview SD and 1024x768 PC use), but I haven't done a side by side so not entirely fair, my parents have a PX series 37" Panny downstairs, got a 37" LCD in my room.
