When he did a speech yesterday infront of parliament he was speaking in French. Are the French still so up themselves that they don't want to speak English?

Erm, maybe his english isnt too good? Thats like saying why didnt Fabio Copello make a post-match analysis in english?

More importantly:

WTF were Camilla and that Bruni doing there. They have no place in this.

Sarko probably spoke in French in order to better express himself. I can speak near perfect French and fluent Spanish, but still find English (native language) far more effective in terms of properly expressing myself.
Nothing to do with French arrogance here imho.

I dont believe it was arrogance in the slightest - especially considering that his whole point was that we should put our differences behind us and move forward.

far better character than Chirac

Because it is the most important language in international politics, and just about everything else too?
Really?

I've no doubt he can speak English at least partially, but does the OP think that he should deliver a speech to a nation not his native tongue?

Would we expect Bush to Speak Welsh if he went to Cardiff?

He could quite easily get someone to translate it to English, which would be a lot more useful than delivering it in French.

No we wouldn't expect Bush to speak Welsh if he went to Cardiff because they all speak English there...

Apparently Sarkozy failed to graduate from a Parisienne Politics institute because he had an insufficient grasp of English. So he probably would struggle.

I find that quite funny, coming from (some I assume is) an English person. We're renowned for being the biggest language snobs in the world. People in glass houses and all that.
