Best Tv for the money imho I got mien for 830

Excellent blacks pin-sharp detail loads of connectivity
your Colours might not be spot on be is fixed spending a few moments playign around with it. AVforums give you some really good colour set ups

mine was over £900 6 months ago and im really happy with it. as the post above says the stock settings are rubbish but if u do go for it i will post mine as iv tried loads off AVforums and they seems to be pretty good!

Wouldn't say I'm happy with set, nor annoyed..it's OK. Change from dynamic to movie, disable everything

I would agree with badbob. I have the M86, which is the same TV just has a black bar along the bottom rather than a silver one with the M87. I have experienced quite a bit of ghosting and motion blur on SD stuff on Sky+. I have tweaked the settings enough to make it a lot less noticeable than it was, but its still there.

One instance that really annoyed me as whilst watching The Godfather on the PS3. The ghosting was awful in parts, especially in dark scenes. It could be a fault with the TV, but a lot of M86/M87 owners seem to experience it on SD stuff. However whilst watching Blu-Ray there is none of it, the only time i noticed was on Spiderman 3 but it was barely noticeable and i was looking out for it. It depends on the age of the DVD too, cause i watched Oldboy last night and it was brilliant, hardly any ghosting at all.

I would recommend it because its brilliant for the price, just be prepared to tweak the settings a lot. :)

Change from dynamic to movie. Set to just scan, if available. Set colour temp to normal. Disable digital nr, active colour, dni-e, movie plus, black adjust, dynamic contrast, edge enhancement and energy saving.

Then set backlight, contrast, brightness, colour, tint. Reduce sharpness to 20-30.

these are my SD settings i use for watching sky over the a cable from the skybox downstairs:

Picture:

mode: Movie
Contrast: 80
Brightness: 46
Sharpness: 10
Colour: 42
Colour tone: warm 1
Backlight: 3
Size: 16:9
Digital NR: off
Movie plus: off

Detailed settings:

Black adjust: off
Dynamic contrast: off
Gamma: 0
Edge enhancement: off
Colour space: wide

White Balance:

R-Offset: 15
G-Offset: 11
B-Offset: 10
R-Gain: 5
G-Gain: 12
B-Gain: 15

Sound:

Mode: Movie
SRS TS XT: Off
Auto volume: Off
Internal mute: Off

Setup:

Energy saving: Low

I will post PS3 over HDMI settings in a few days once my new cable is here as there copied from a guy that had his set up Prefesonally calibrated. And my settings for my PC over DVI-HDMI if you want.

yup hard to find a better 40" for the money :) . I did have a sd judder problem with mine but the update over freeview fixed it for me.

just a heads up the AV forums thread is well over 100 pages long and most posts are ppls settings. it took me hours and hours trying to find the best so give mine ago first then if your not happy start reading ;)

I have a question about that - every advert for the M86 that I have seen, advertises it with a contrast of 8000:1, whereas the M87 has a contrast rating of 15000:1 in most adverts.

Are they or are they not the same TV:confused::confused:

They are the same spec, just cosmetically different as i mentioned. Confused me for a bit too, but they are definitely the same.

I get this too. I think the OTA update is just for the built in Freeview that fixes a stutter issue. Not 100% sure though.

Agreed, even more evident on HD.

My little yellow fish on planet earth: shallow seas went from a nice sharp wonderfully detailed fish to a blurry yellow blob moving across the screen.

Not a huge issue just something I noticed as Im looking for reasons why i should have bought a plasma. With the price of recent 1080 Plasmas Im finding many :p

You notice it more in HD? I find it notice it much much less. Still on the fence about whether to get it changed or get a Plasma cause i only use Sky+ at the minute until HD becomes cheap. Even then there will be blurring.

I was very close to buying the LE40M87 just after Christmas.
In the end we decided on the LE40F86 instead - as we felt it was just that little bit better again.

When we were shopping for our LCD whenever we went into stores to look at them and we saw a panel that was that bit better than all of the others it was either a Sony or a Samsung.
