I was just playing on my Wii and it suddenly switched off, like all the power had been cut. The light on the front was completely off, no standby or anything, and it wouldn't switch on.

After about a minute I was able to switch it on again and carry on as normal

What the hell happened?

If you leave the Wii on standby (yellow light) you essentially leave Wii Connect24 on, and in a nutshell it causes it to overheat, over time.

Overheating was my first thought too, but I've had it for nearly a year and it's always been on Connect24, and this has never happened before. It's also well ventilated, it's just stood on it's own and not in a cabinet or anything.

Weird.. :S

You tried to mod it?! Superchargeed your Wii Drex? :D

Sounds like a power surge or something from the light cutting out completely and the Wii not turning on right after it happened.

Is there any way of turning it off without plugging it out? At times when i leave it in standby it seems to turn on with the blue LED light in the DVD slot flashing away...

Hold the power button down on the Wii when turning it off.

Yeah, keep the power button depressed for about 5 seconds or so, and the little LED goes red instead of amber, indicating it's been switched off and not just put into stand-by.

buy a ps2 ...you can get them quite cheap now and they have far far better graphics.

OK, because despite owning a 360 and a half-decent PC, I bought a Wii because of it's graphical prowess

Did all the lights go out aswell? If so you had what is known as a 'power cut'.

Hilarious.

No, the TV and everything else were still on obviously.
