22" monitor decisions? Sorry...!

Also consider Viewsonic, they have always been classy monitors with good build quality. Avoid Samsung, cheap Korean tat. Poor build quality and terrible backlight bleeding. I'd be embarrassed to own a Samsung.

If you're looking at the Iiyama then there is an in depth review here. This goes through every aspect of the screen, down to backlight bleeding and panel noise. Iiyama is the best 22" gamer screen. Get the B1 version and not the B2 version, less lag. Overclockers sell the B1 version.

I've got a 226BW, best piece of hardware I ever bought, totally worth the money in my opinion. Sure it suffers from dodgy out of the box colours, but that can easily be fixed. And as with all TN panels the viewing angles aren't great, but if you sit in the same position all day it really makes no difference. When I look at the colours next to my old CRT it amazes me how technology has come on over the years, everything looks so much more vibrant and lifelike.

Guess you could always go for one of the OcUK Value 24" monitors, if you don't mind the risk of possible getting a TN instead of a *VA panel, but that's another story :)

2nd'd
got one cheap best money i had spent tempting getting a 2nd.

Sadly I can see a 22" monitor lagging my system up let alone a 24" :( Bearing in mind I'm going from a 19" crt anyway.

The 226bw does look good, I just don't know anymore =/ I did have a viewsonic once, but sent it back as it had a dead pixel...well several actually.

What are your PC specs? If it could handle WS gaming there really is no reason not get one, imo they're superior to non-WS in every way. I was pretty skeptical about them before I got mine, but now I could never go back! I'm sure most people are the same :)

My sig is my specs :)

@ Lozza23_uk - Which monitor are you talking about? I currently have a 19" lcd im using instead of my Samsung 19"crt, just so the colours in far cry look nicer...So having a standard res LCD/TFT wouldn't bother me I don't think, as the res' are more normal.

Oh yeah whoops :D

I'd have thought your PC could cope alright with 22" tbh, depending what games you like to play. 24" would be a bit of a stretch though I think :)

Even if you have a 24" you can run your games at lower resolutions. Make sure it has Pixel mapping 1:1 and ideally what the interpolation behaviour is like (if you can find a detailed review)

Good point, although (correct me if I'm wrong here) 24" with 1:1 will set you back more than £200?

Also, just noticed a horrible unintentional pun in my previous post :D

it was a comment regarding the ThisWeekOnly samsung and Acer monitors. both are widesecreen. the OP was asking whether widescreen would spoil his gaming, and I commented that OCuk do not seem to stock any 22" monitors that are NOT widescreen in his 200quid range.

I am a monitor n00b, just know what OCuk has and what I am also looking to buy :)

Yeah, I am the OPer shall we say :)

I might just have to take the plunge onto one of them...I just don't fancy forking out £200 saldy if the thing's just going to have dead/stuck pixels...Like I said, I brought a flatscreen once, and it had a stuck/dead pixel or two, sent it back and been using a CRT ever since :(

@ Pich: Yeah, that's my main worry...If I can't play games properly, then theres the native res thing, that's always put me off. Most of my games tend to be fairly new nowadays.

I'll probably make a list up, and just deicde that way...I might even just get a 20" monitor? Confused...Yes :)

Been looking at the 22" monitors as well, think i'm going to go for the Samsung SM-223BW. My friend has one and they are stunning to look at.

I will be connecting my PS3 up by DVI-HDMI, does anyone have an opinion on what the quality is likely to be like?

Cheers.

Hi again guys...Kinda thinking if I should just get a 19"/20" widescreen...I currently have a 19" standard LCD on my desk, and that's ample room really...

Only reason for change is the fact it's an old bangor I managed to pick up somewhere.

Any thoughts?
