Fresh Vista Ultimate 64bit install - anything to know?

I always have my anti-virus and antispyware software that I install already on a cd or usb stick so I can install this before connecting to the internet. Normally I use Acronis True Image 11 to backup an image to an external drive before activation or installing software just in case something goes wrong.

Disable Superfetch if you're a gamer - it can play havoc with games as it decides to start thrashing your hard drive in the background.

On certain configurations, I have never suffered from this and I game extensively.
