New look BBC news site

I like the style, but wish it was overall that little bit smaller, everything looks too big.

Major problem for me is why it's on one page only!

Just don't see the point, at all, of redesigning the site to have it on page. Makes the entire site look half finished.
 
I like it, looks fresher, and takes up a bit more width of the bloody screen at last. Similarly confused as to why that seems to be the only page with the new format though.

Oh and the quotes seem fine to me in FF and Opera.

Why do they feel the need to spread everything out?

And why can the old stories not be put into the new template?
 
Old stories are never 'upgraded' if you look at some of the ~2000 stories they have a WAY old template :D
Besides, what's the point? After a week all those stories will be 'old news'.
 
Looks pants IMO. There are some rendering errors I get on FF/Linux, too (which I have mailed them about.)

Much, much preferred the old look.

The new template likely has functional differences as well as visual so rather than spend many man hours converting old stories it's easy enough to just leave old stories in the template they were written in.
 
The only criticism that I have at the moment is that they've taken the "quiet structure" design methodology a bit too far. Those red upper-case headlines just don't have enough weight to be seen as headings, for instance.

Other than that, I think it's an improvement :)
 
I quite like spacious sites, but then I've always been a fan of minimalistic designs, layouts and typography.

My only issues are that the typography is horrible, and it seems like some parts of the old site have not been changed much at all - so it doesn't fit-in - I'm mostly reffering to the left hand column of 'sections'. The right-most column also has far too much space, so the content doesn't appear to 'fit'.

Good idea, poorly executed. 'Though I think they're probably still working on it, as it's early days. :)
 
tbh i really like it, keeps the same simple style that the bbc have always had yet made it look more modern. one thing in particular i really like is that it's now centralised :)

exactly, the main site has been changed for well over a month now, some reason they are doing it in very small and slow stages but eventually it will be complete and a better site
 
I quite like it, took them 10 years to center the thing :p.

Like the space it takes up now, fits widescreen better. Overall its far faster loading and better optimised.

Only thing I dont like is the black bit at the top it looks out of place. They could have easily added the search and accessiblity options to the red banner.
