The Good, the Bad and the Ugly HD

According to the digital bits, a fistful of dollars BD is planned but no release date, So I cant imagine it will be anytime soon.

Forgive my noobishness, but what would be the point? I thought films had to be filmed in HD for them to be played back in HD on Blu-Ray?

They are and have been for years. Celluloid resolution is huge.

Quite right.... Otherwise it would look terrible when projected on to a massive cinema screen.

When the data is digitised its resolution needs to be reduced due to storage constraints be it 9GB of DVD or 25GB of Blu-ray. An uncompressed film that is digitised may well run to about half a terrabyte (if not more) I would guess.

As long as its taken from a master negative, ie no splices scratches, it should transfer to hd just fine, as has already been said the 35mm 70mm prints are a higher res than br hd dvd. my the good the bad and the ugly isnt the best print in the world.
