Those pictures are timid, and atleast they're doing it in the boat. There are videos around of jap fishermen just trapping a load in a harbour, spearing them and then dragging the dolphins up the road tied to the back of the cars to the slaughter house while they are still alive...

Scum isnt harsh enough a word.

Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdchBZE3mqg&feature=related ugh there it is, warning not for the squemish.

"How that is possible in the century XXl"

What a bloody stupid title for a video. I don't know what it is with the Portuguese, they always seem to have stupid ways of expressing themselves.

I don't really care to be honest. The dolphins prey on fish in a similar way. I think it's good to kill animals humanely if possible but these fishermen wouldn't be able to afford to do that. I think overfishing is worse as it damages ecosystems.

The way that the dolphins were being killed is terrible. It's disguists me to think that people would actually do this kind of thing. There is no reason for it.

where as dolphins ripping apart hundreds of fish, is fine and dandy I presume?

They have teeth we have spears.

If those types of dolphin populations aren't really that affected by an annual hunt then I suppose I don't really mind it if it's part of their traditions e.g. like the Inuits have.

Plenty of other animals are only raised, kept and then slaughtered for food over here but just because we're used to doing it to e.g. cows and sheep it's probably why little is said about it. It's not totally necessary as we can live heathily off a vegetarian diet. Should we judge another country for doing it to a dolphin - i.e. an animal we're not used to seeing that happen to?

I suppose on the other side it isn't really that necessary in this day and age and it's ok I their protest was done fairly peacefully I think (article isn't clear). What angers me is when animals' rights' protesters go mad at institutions which are necessary e.g. animal testing for use in developing medicines.

Dragging behind cars whilst they're still alive? Slitting their main artery with knives?

no they just rip the flesh away until they get a firm enough grip to force them into a large container full of strong acid, often while still alive :)
