I thought 'Safety Camera' Vans were to be clearly visible?

Why don't you "agree" with this? I think the cat and mouse game the government and us motorists play is stupid - laws are laws.

You shouldn't be warned about a speed camera so you can stop breaking the law in time for passing one; the whole notion is ridiculous. It could not be more simple; speeding is an offence.

Why dont North Wales Police target speeders in quiet towns? I live in North Wales and ride a bike here. On the moors where you may see some sheep and maybe the odd car once in a blue moon, the police are keen to catch speeding bikers. In my town cars regularly speed past schools with children about because there is no chance of being caught by the police !

If there's a visual deterrent then the person will generally slow down, whereas with this they won't find out for a couple of weeks. As we all know, speed kills so you'd think that if they were doing anything other than just raising money that the police would be trying to prevent people speeding and as a result they would be driving more safely. If someone is driving too fast and has a crash, how would a horse cart with a camera in and a letter through the post have any chance of preventing that? A clearly marked camera on the side of the road which would encourage a lot of people to consider their speed and slow down.

No they won't slow down they will slow down for 100 yards and go back up again. Don't be silly I have never seen anyone slow down for a camera and stay slowed down.

Well if they were known to be patrolling the entire road then a lot of people would taking it more slowly I would have thought as there'd be the added visual deterrent.

If they circulate that unseen speed cameras are catching people ANYWHERE on that road then people are going to slow down along the road.
If they circulate that speed cameras are catching people ANYWHERE on that road and can be seen to be working on the road and catching speeders, then more people are going to slow down along the road I would have thought.

Or just slam on their brakes everytime they see something that could hide a camera.

I don't see why so much time and money is wasted on such a pathetic crime. Going over the speed limit doesn't make you a dangerous driver, driving like a tard does and cameras are useless against them when they drive dangerously under the limit.

To be fair, if you're caught speeding, *****ing about the camera being hidden is a bit pointless "sorry officers, I wouldn't have been speeding if i knew I'd get caught"

Yes you can accuse them of being udnerhand about it, but you're still breaking the law.

There is - otherwise they wouldn't rake in so much money from speeding fines, would they? People are clearly not sticking to speed limits, so they need to be deterred (with the threat of punishment).

Taking money from offenders is the perfect solution; it is both a deterrent and a punishment.

Get burnt once, don't do it again. Continue to get burnt, and you deserve to lose your license anyway - it is too unsafe to have them on the roads.

did the law get changed last year? so they no longer have to ve visable or sign post.

Yes it was about March time. They kept it very low key any many forces immediatley discounted the use of the new powers for the time being.

Given the appaling clear up rates for proper crime in Wales I am not really surprised to see this and I am sure it will go more nationwide shortly.
