High folks, well as the title says, looking for a Satellite Navigation System for my car, i know there is a lot on the Market now, so i would not have much of an idea of what to look for so i thought i would come and ask you guys.
My Budget is about £130 or so, looking for a decent Sat Nav with decent screen and with reliable direction system.

Thanks.

someone badly needs to make a satnav buyers guide to stop all these threads.

I have to agree.. cant go far wrong with a tom tom. simple fast and normally spot on.

If you are technically savvy then the best satnav system has to be the widescreen navigo 4.3". Its around £90 for the unit and will run any of the various satnav programs.

I could be wrong, but don't TomToms use a less detailed mapping system to improve speed and proprietary file types that obstruct upgrades?

I'd rather have one that operates quickly than has detailed maps. I don't need it to find me a parking space, just a road and direction is fine :)

Tom toms are awesome & for 150 quid they're a steal in my opinion.

Upgrade your phone to one with GPS ;)

I did think about that before, but read a review somewhere that said a dedicated sat-nav was quicker and not so querky, is there any truth in this or is a phone-nav just as quick and packed with the same fetures ?

ive got my old XDA II with tomtom nav 5 installed and a bluetooth gps reciever connected

tbh it does feel a bit "jerry-rigged" compared to an actual tomtom, but it does work damn well :)

Depends what phone you get to be honest. I have a Nokia N95 and the built in GPS software is good, navigation works fine etc. I'm considering getting tomtom software for it just because you can set up stuff like camera warnings which you cant with the built in software.
Best thing about it is the compact nature. My train home got cancled a few stops early and I had no idea where I was, thanks to the GPS I found my way to a retail park for some food and waited to get picked up :)

I'd also say TomTom..

I have a TomTom One standalone, and also use TomTom 6 on my Nokia N80, which is exactly the same..

At the end of the day, most of the Sat-nav's are very similar, we use loads in work.. but I always prefer the Tomtom, it has the best 3D realtime representation and easiest interface.. it's not perfect, but none are..

I have the Tom Tom ONE and it's pretty good - I update speed cameras from pocketgps.co.uk which costs naff all. I do find the screen update to be a bit slow particularly on large roundabouts with lots of exits so tend to ignore it and look at signs otherwise I end up going off at the wrong exit sometimes  Not sure if that "quickfix" thing that TomTom tout sorts this out..
