Will it work on my new built pc.. atm i have xp pro..

Also i have 4gb ram.. 32bit wont recognise 4gb:(

Cant find a decent torrent either..

so if i install that dell oem on my build.. it wont work???

Hello StillUndisputed, regardless if it would work or not, you certainly wouldn't be licensed to use that copy of Windows on that second machine.

If you wish to use Windows Vista on your second machine, then you will be required to purchase an additional license. :)

just to let you know, we don't talk about illegal torrents on the forum, and we promote people to purchase their operating systems.

Also, the Dell vista disk won't even install on a computer that doesn't have a dell Bios.

Er, not true...

I installed the disk that came with my Dad's laptop (A Dell) onto my computer to see how well Vista would run on it before I bought it, there were no problems what-so-ever.

However, the OP would be wrong in transferring the license from the Dell onto the new build as it is OEM and meant only for one computer.

It may well install but when it asks to be reactivated at some point ( and it will ) you will have to lie on either the automated system or to a microsoft rep to get it activated. Whats possible and whats legal from an EULA viewpoint are totally different things.

Im very surprised a dell disk would even install. They are usually tied to the motherboard to such an extent that the installer just tells you to bugger off.

just buy vista home premium 64bit oem, it's about £50 last time i checked

do you know the difference between xp home and pro? if not, then you def don't need pro/ultimate

No, they're not. The Dell disk I have here is OEM Vista 32bit with Ultimate, Home Prem and Home basic on it. It just has Dell branding.

It worked fine on my old PC when trying Vista out.

My Dell laptop came with Vista Ultimate 32bit. I made an ISO of my retail x64 disc, copied 2 files from the dell disk into the iso, burnt & installed just as if it was a Dell original.
I wont say the files here just incase it is frowned upon (even though technically it is perfectly legal, my licence is valid for 32 & 64 bit.)
If you cant work out the files, use a directory compare tool to compare the discs...

but once you've installed it on your old pc to try you've broken your license. even if u didn't activate it...

but u can only run 32bit or 64bit, not both with one license.
