G92 vs G80 heat levels?

With the recent price cuts in the 8800GTX line-up, I am now seriously reconsidering 2 of them in SLi as a viable solution until the next gen arrives.

I had pretty much made my mind up to get 2 8800GTS 512's and SLi them, then I rested on my laurels and waited for the 9800 to arrive, which was a disappointment, so I even considered just getting another 8800GTS 640 to SLi with my current card.

I am really not too sure what to do, but my case is a little cramped and I haven't really got room for anything bigger, so I have to make the best of it that I can, therefore heat can be an issue.

So, does anyone know what the temps on these things are like vs each other?

My BFG gets to around 85-90c or so at load. So obviously I am a little worried about the heat 2 G80's would generate in my case!

Are the G92's a lot cooler running? Anyone ran both that could comment?
 
My 8800GT 512MB doesn't go above 40 degrees at load, and that's with it overclocked. Accelero S1. Cooler than my X1900XT, I noticed after a few hours the room used to get toasty, but doesn't seem to be as hot. Also hardly any heat on the S1, compared with the 1900xtx on the S1
 
Thanks for the reply. Those S1's seem to be superb coolers. That may be another consideration. This just doesn't get any easier :p
 
G92's are hotter on the 65nm, when i had an 8800 GT it used to go 85+ underload, and Nvidia knows it, so they going to switch them to 55nm as soon as possible (July indicated). :)
 
My PoV 8800GTS G92 goit hits around 68-69c on load, and 57-58c idling. Scared the hell out of me when I saw those temps at first.
 
Not really fair comparing a single-slot and dual-slot based coolers on different cards though.

A fair comparison would be between say, a 8800GTX and a 8800GTS 512, as performance-wise they are relatively close too.

Speaking of which *when* my 8800GTX arrives I'll run RivaTuner for a bit to monitor both that and my current GTS.
 
Cheers for the replies guys, guess my wanting to keep a hold of temps just got blew out of the window though, thanks to the 2 8800GTX's i've just bought! :D
 
Yea they should wallop em but from what I've seen it aint the case. I mean if you are playing at a res of 1900x1200 then yea its fine but at 1680x1050 I rekon the GX2 would actually be faster.

If you plan on playing crysis, the 9800GX2 actually is faster. check the 1680x1050 very high dx10 thread.

I don't think it is the maximum temperature that is the issue, more the quantity of heat. A soldering iron gets very hot but won't heat a room. If the card is using 200 Watts say, then that is the amount of heat that has to be exhausted from the GPU into the case or the room. If into the case a more powerful case fan is needed if heat build up is an issue whether the GPUs are at 60 or 90C.
