Hey all,

Just got an S-Video cable for my pc to hook it up to my tv via scart to play some GH3 on my big telly. When i get display on the TV though its only black and white for some reason. Have checked the cable is in both ends, have checked nv control panel colour settings and the TV colour settings but it stays black and white :(

Is there any way to fix this? The TV is not high-def so i cant use HDMI or anything, has to be scart as far as im aware. Sound through the telly works fine, just the picture doesnt.

The picture is clear aside from the obvious lack of colour.

Thanks in advance

Your scart adaptor may be damaged, check to see if any of the pins are bent out of place or indented (lower) than the others.
They should all be the same height.

Check you have your setting on the NV panel set to NTSC or PAL according to the origin of the TV set, try both to see if that rectifies the problem

Asuming no techincal problems older TV's werent designed to accept the Y/C signal the s-video cable transmits over the scart port (it excpects a composite input), as such you only are seeing the Y (luminence, or black and white) part of the signal.
There are various ways to get around this
1) If there is a setting on the menu to change the display so it recieves Y/C instead of composite
2) Usually there are seperate scar modes, i.e. AV2 (Y/C), AV2RGB/SCART-RGB and AV2-S (s-video, this is the one you want)
3) Buy an adaptor which converts the signal from Y/C to composite and then plug this into the standard scart adaptor (it basicaly puts the Y and the C bits together).

Oooor if you feel like doing some DIY, make your own
