New NVIDIA 174.74 WHQL drivers released

I don't understand all these Nvidia drivers.. Switched over to a GT a month or so ago and I'm confused! I liked my ATI drivers where I downloaded one lot and it worked regardless..
I take it the newest I can use on my 8800GT are 174.70s?

You can use the 174.74's, you get them from the beta section. :)

I forgot to post the supported GPUs, anyway here they are.

GeForce 9800 GX2
GeForce 9800 GTX
GeForce 9600 GT
GeForce 8300
GeForce 8200
GeForce 8100/NVIDIA nForce 720a
NVIDIA nForce 730a

The beta version of these drivers also support the GeForce 6, 7, 8, and 9 series GPUs, so i would think that these new WHQL driver packages also contain unsigned drivers for the GeForce 6, 7, 8 & 9 series GPUs.

It should work yeah, if you go into Adjust Video Color Settings, then select the with NVIDIA settings option, the Dynamic Contrast Enhancement, and the Skin Tone option (called Colour Enhancement) become available to select. :)

Well on Guru3d site it says the whql drivers support all 8 series cards. So who's right?

Not Guru, as the supported GPU list has been posted above, and you can also check via the Nvidia site, as it takes you to the 169.21's which were released way back in December if you look for the 8 series drivers, the 174.74's for the 8 series are the beta ones, but as i said above they are exactly the same drivers, bar the WHQL certificate, so technically Guru are right as well i suppose, as if your running the 174.74 beta's, then you are running the exact same drivers. :p

The WHQL won't install on my 8800GTS, but as loadsa says the betas from the nvidia website go straight on and are exactly the same.

Cheers. I just hope these work. I'm still on 169.21 as anything above that crashes in conflict denied ops and kane and abel.

Actually i don't get this now, if the 174.74's have been certified, then they should be WHQL certified for every series card, not just the 9 series, as surely the 174.74's are a single set of drivers, but this looks like Nvidia have done 2 sets of the exact same drivers, and just done 2 .infs, then just sent the set with the 9 series .inf off to get certified, ******* bizarre, wtf is the point in that.

That also means, they must have more than 1x set of the exact same drivers up for download, just they all have differing .inf's, so if you select 9 series, you get taken to the drivers that have the 9 series .inf, and if you go to download them for the 8 series, you get taken to the exact same drivers, but the ones with the 8 series .inf, wtf, why not just up 1x single set with an .inf that supports all cards, and have all the links take you to them.

Any day now I am expecting Nvidia to release a NON beta release for the 8 series cards. I mean come on!! the 174 seem to be good enough to warrent an offical release ...right? My god this is annoying

I have been using these for a few days now, (since Loadsadrivers posted them up actually) and am having to ditch them. While running TDU i keep getting lockups, black screens and artifacting. Going back to 169.44 now. :( (Windows XP with 8800GT).

They've got an official release, but only for the 9's, so the question has to be, whats different about them, as thinking about it, there has to be a difference, otherwise the 6/7/8 series 174.74's would have gone official as well if they are the exact same drivers, so why aint they.

You can always download the WHQL set and use the inf from the beta's to install em on other cards i suppose, then you definately are running the exact same drivers.

Ooh, that sounds interesting. Does it work well, video quality improvement?
