Anyone done Nvidia+ATI card sametime?

As in owning an 8800GT say and an HD3400, I need to stick with ATI for there superior HD+HDMI output to the big LCD screen and to use there features/full screen video mirroring technology while at the sametime game with the 8800GT say.

Is it possible ?
 
I think this is about using 2 card seperately. in a theoretical sence it shoudl be the same as any 2 PCI devices, like sound or netowrk cards, but in reality I think the high link between the OS and the graphics card means there would be major driver issues.

If you have both however, give it a go, the worse that can happen is they dont work.
 
if you mixed Nvidia and ATI in same way like SLi or crossfire then it wont work - only you do is 2 same Nvidia card = SLi or 2 same ATi card = Crossfire that usual work as normally - mix it is not answer... different drivers between Nvidia and ATi...

if you want to try then it wont work neither...
 
I did once do this with an X1650 Pro and an old S3 PCI card (really old), didn't bother installing the actual drivers for the S3 card as I didn't plan to use it for anything 3D, just an extended desktop. You'd probably get away with something like that but I think running two modern cards that have conflicting drivers could pose an issue.

Yeah my 1st thoughts were no as well but had to ask.

I think I may just have to continue searching my ever misery Video mirroring technology which Nvidia decided to abandon years ago:(

Either I build a HTPC or just use alternative MCE software so at least can watch my Videos, and at same time surf the net at least.

Yes I installed both drivers, I had two cards because I use 3 monitors. However the ATI card, which was in secondary PCI Express slot, would not start and would give error 43 in Device Manager.

In XP I also installed both drivers and everything worked OK.

SLI and Crossfire make 2 cards work together as one. I done think this is the aim. I think the OP wants to have 2 cards working independanty, providing 4 monitor outputs. It would be just like having 2 network cards, or 2 sound cards, or 2 TV cards, etc.

In theory is should be fine, but in practice we dont know. If you have 2 cards and 2 PCIe slots then give it a go and let us know.
 
Thats good to hear, but to use the features from either card im not sure how that would work.

I dont think theres an option in playing back Videos to use the ATI card instead of the Nvidia one ?

Guess this is all theory and not quite 100% tested stuff...

But at least its doable somewhat in XP :)

Simply plug the monitor/HDTV you want to watch your HD media into the output from the ATi card, and the monitor for the Games into the nVidia one ;)
 
In theory it should be. Each monitor/ TV will be driven by a given card, ATI or NVIDIA, simply put any DVD/ Game/ Application on the relevent display & it will be handled by the designated card.
