Im after a new phone as my current one is old (W550i) and im also on O2 PAYG where i now want a contract of 200mins/400txts a month or there abouts. I dont think i would need more than that, but anything less may be costly in the long run.

Here are 2 ideas i have in my head at the moment:

-I like the look of the iPhone + O2 simplicity package but im unsure wether the iPhone would last long in my field of work (electrician that gets muddy/dusty). iPhone and Simplicity (£15 a month) comes to £450 after 1 year.

-I could get a normal O2 12 month contract and get a free phone (but would cost £30 a month for 200 mins). This comes to £360 after 1 year. And i dont get to choose any phone.

Some phones i like are K850i, w890i and w960i. I would ideally like to have a decent camera too. If the iPhone had a better camera id have that for sure but it puts me off a little.

Any input would be welcome, im not up on my phones but realise its time for a new one :)

The iPhone is a lot tougher than the other phones you listed.

They really can take a bashing and will be ideal for your job as there is hardly any buttons to get crap stuck in between. The screens are glass so are very hard to scratch.

When i saw the reply from user 'Justin' i knew it was going to be about the iPhone :p

Ok thats good to know about the screen. What about dust? Would you have thought that dust would be a problem at all (gettin behind the screen etc)?

And lastly, whats the camera like ? I wanted a decent camera but i suppose i can make do.

Thanks for the reply.

those photos are quite good, i thought it was only 2mp :s?

Yes it is only 2mp. To be honest all i saw were people slating the camera on the iphone but i have been fairly impressed with it. I think it does the job fine, sure it's not a 5mp xenon flash etc, but it is pretty fast loading and instant almost at taking and storing the photos.

Last week I got my iPhone and I couldn't be happier. The interface is awesome. I previously had a K850i that I got on a free upgrade with orange and it really is not a very good replacement for the excellent k800i. The menus and overall responsiveness of the mobile was very poor.

I tested my camera against a mates u600 of a ferrari and it didn't look as good as the 5MP flash said it should.

Yes it isnt bad, remember not to listen to all the N95 owners when they tell you its useless :D

Well I own both phones and compared to the N95 the camera on the iPhone is pretty useless. I think the main problem is that the benchmark for phone cameras has moved on so much in the past couple of years. Forget using the iPhone in any kind of low light situation as well (notice how none of the pictures in that link are of people or subjects in the dark).

Saying that, I never use the N95 anymore because apart from the camera there is nothing I prefer on it over the iPhone.

If you want to record video or send the pictures you take over bluetooth or any other files for that matter forget the iphone because it doesn't do either. If neither of those things matters to you then I'd go with the iPhone. The camera is very quick and a doddle to use and it takes decent pics in my opinion.
