Birmingham Nightlife

Dunno Where it is exactly (maybe someone else can help)
Theres a stretch where theres a walkabout, a bar called rococo and a strip club with jungle stuff painted oin the outside
Nice

That's pretty much exactly half way down Broad Street :p

Walkabout is opposite Brindley Place, and I'm assuming the strip club is the Rocket Club, next to Risa?

I'd vote you scrap the idea of going to Birmingham and go to Wolverhampton instead. Been to Bham twice and it was crap both times, all the clubs were filthy and full of types you wouldn't usually want to be near. Wolverhampton's far cleaner, with better bars and less chavvy people.

Wolves isnt too bad for a quiet night out but if you want club after club after club its not going to be your thing weve got 3 clubs that I can think of and thats Oceana which is your ususal dance, rnb, mainstream club with huge drink prices on non student nights, a very strict dress policy, and you need to be over 21 if you want in on saturdays. Then we have planet a dirty hole of a rock club which is only worth going to on nights with the £10 all you can drink. Last but not least is Canal club which has loads of different nights on every now and again and ranges from DnB and dance to rock and metal and is quite reasonable on prices.
Then you have all the usual smaller bars and pubs that are open till 2 or 3 at the weekends.

That's Broad Street.

Brindley Place is nice in the summer, but only if you are into gastro pubs (Pitcher & Piano, All Bar One etc)

Someone above mentioned the Duke Of Wellington, thats a cracking pub that always has great beer on. Another fav of mine is the Actress & Bishop on Ludgate Hill, bands on, good beer, brilliant staff, and a free buffet most evenings at about 5 :)

Air is good, pricey for a night out (i managed 100ish, tickets taxi blah)

Everyone goes to the waterfront i know, no ones ever had a bad word about it. (i live 5 mins from merryhell!)

merryhell might be a bit far if you in birmingham though, taxi is 35quid easy. Train is like 4quid though ;)

......and The Wellington is worth a visit if you like your ales.

Oh yes, seconded. It's tiny, full of men with beards and bellies the size of Bournmouth but the beer is supurb and in a reverse of the Balti House tradition you can take in your own food and they supply crockery, cutlery and condiments. I'd also recommend The Old Joint Stock around the corner on Temple Row (opposite the Cathedral) for great beer as well (and a good comedy club)

The thing with Birmingham is; you need to define what you want from a night out in terms of your musical taste, food preferences and type of entertainment you want. Birmingham can supply for most tastes but it can be spread across quite a large geographical area to get everything you want from a night out.

I'd goto Wolverhampton, but i don't tie my laces tight enough to stop people nicking my shoes :D

It does have a really bad reputation but ive never had any trouble in the two years ive been here or at least definately a lot less than ive had in any other big city or even in my small home town

Droitwich is the place to be:

Population at 2001 census: 22000 (nearer 30000 now easily i'd bet)
Pubs: 25 - Making their number more than shops in the town centre.

Longest possible distance between two far away pubs ~ 1.5miles. Average distance townwide ~ 0.5miles.

It's drinkers town, The Knights Templar of Holy lager, hail!

I will actually be staying in Solihull. I just assumed Birmingham was the nearest major place. How far apart are they in terms of taxi fares?

25 quid or so....

Train in doesn't take too long - Solihull is a nice area though not too great for going out as it gets full of scum from a place called Chelmsley Wood on weekends.

Stick to Brindley Place for bars or maybe the Arcadian - Broad street is full of idiots - though the comedy club/Bar Risa isn't too bad.

but only if you are into gastro pubs (Pitcher & Piano, All Bar One etc)

you're joking right?

Pitcher and Piano, All Bar One are "Gastro Pubs"????

They're pretty standard issue chain bars you get in most towns and cities in the UK..... slightly more upmarket version of weatherspoons IMO
