Question for XPS M1330 Owners

Anyone know if the slot dvdrw drive is replaceable? I know the slot is built in to the chassis but the actual unit should be removable failing that what model it is they use?

Im sure its a standard drive, only photos i could find of *** drive are located HERE

Not much help i know, have you tried just taking ti apart and looking at the drive?

yes its a standard drive usually found in smarter looking laptops such as Toshiba Qosimo series and on Macs, there normally panasonic uj-8xx series, they are quiet delicate compared to a normal try loader as kids like to insert things into them, and the amount of mechanics inside is mind boggling, looking at a side on view of the 1330 would suggest its a strip down job to replace, which is fine under warranty but a bit trickier than your normal tray job

yeah ive now looked at the service manual, doesnt look too bad, just a gentle hand and a little patience i think

Ok just got it, and I have to say Im impressed, one thing it was a refurbed one, so cheap as chips but It didnt come with the M1330 driver and utilities disk, could anyone be so kind to burn me a copy id happyily pay for disk & postage etc

You can download it all for free from the Dell Support site (well, all except Crapio cd creator cut-down-basic-edition and other nonsense.)

I know that, its just handy sometimes to have a disk, especially as it has the Pre N WLAN card which windows doesnt detect and install so unless I have access to another pc im snookered

The drivers on the disc will be mostly out of date compared to the ones on the website. Always better to use the latest drivers.

Yep but like ive said in the above post, if I ever install windows where I dont have access to another pc ill be stuffed, I know I can download the drivers and create my own disk but thats not what I was getting at cheers anyway

What I personally did was dumped all the drivers onto the recovery partition. Doesn't help if the HDD fails, obviously, but it keeps them in a convenient place.

Not a bad idea, except I dont have a recovery partition lol, Spose I can easily create one

Once you put them in the recovery partition, how do you access those drivers?

Same way you'd access them any other time. They're just all dumped in a folder on there.
