Yep reckon i've been scammed(Vehicle World Services) **Update page 2**

I've got my car on the trader, today a company called Vehicle World Services called up and said they had buyers for my car, they offer finance for the car and they make the money out of the finance. Sometimes buyers choose not to take up the finance in which case they wanted £99.99 off me for their fee.
The fee would be returned to me if the buyer took up the finance, since they would have made their money from that.

Well, they must have caught me at a particularly stupid moment because i handed over my card details *then* researched them on the internet.

Seems that people have signed up and not had any enquires. Some have complained and got their money back. I called customer services and stated that i would give them seven days and then ask for a refund and the guy said in principle thats how it could work.

All the same i reckon i've been done, and am kicking myself.

all a load of cr*p, i have my car up for sale in Ireland and i got 10+ calls from companies like that from the UK.

Oh well, letters to trading standards, financial services authority and BBC watchdog coming up in seven days.

They've had my £100 so i'm going to do what i can to make sure they don't get some other dumb schmuk.

At least you have learnt the hard way to be much more careful and research things like this before jumping in.

First thing to think when any of these services call is "Have I ever heared of anyone buying a car through these people?"
The answer will always be "no".

I got called by these idiots when I was selling the ex missus BMW 750i.

Them: "Hello, we have 25 buyers looking to purchase a 1993 BMW 750i in red. They have cash waiting and we will match you up for a small fee"

Me: "Why don't they look on Autotrader? There are 3 of them for sale"
Me puts phone down.

:( unlucky, did it not strike you as strange that you were selling your car, but you were paying out money?

Well yes and no, you pay out money to sell your car in the trader after all, and people are comfortable to do that.

Problem is if in seven days i've had no people coming to look at it, which judging by the forums has happened on at least a dozen occasions.

Oh well, people have had money refunded if the car doesn't sell so i'll report back in 1 or 2 weeks time.

Reminds me of the mobile phone insurance scams. I still get phonecalls from different phone insurance companies who start off saying "We're just calling about your mobile phone insurance, we're delighted to tell you that your monthly premium has been discounted...blah..blah".... even though I cancelled my phone insurance a week after buying the phone.

I've had loads of these the past few weeks. Got fed up and decided to waste their time.

I gave my name as Richard Cranium and said I'd post them £100. They rang back a few days later, asked for Richard, much to my girlfriends confusion, and then I told them that I'd sold it for 10k. The guy almost sounded upset asking why I sold it for less than half price, and that he would have found me a buyer. I said it was fine because it was stolen, so I didn't do too badly out of it :D He went off really confused and I haven't got any calls since!

Nice one :D My boss had one of these jokers on speaker phone at work and kept them going for nearly an hour, surprised they didn't notice all the errrm, "noises" in the background.

I've had one of these places on my case. its a total nightmare as they start off sounding like an honest buyer and drag it out for ages until they drop in the "we need a deposit" rubbish.

Best was when i was selling the Avanzato, was such a random call when they told me they had 4 buyers i just laughed at them and told them to naff off. They kept ringing back so i'd answer the call with all sorts of "interesting" things playing in the back ground...

Whenever you get a call saying I have a buyer simply put the phone down or scare them.

The numbers to look out for are 0208, 0161 and +35 (Scotland I think). They are scammers, enter the phone number into Google and usually it gives results of other car owners that almost got scammed.

Tell you what though, they really don't stop ringing.
